THESE ARE '05 FORKS, except the fox.

Sorry for all the threads about a bike I want to get, but now its narrowed down to the fork.

I am thinking of getting an Iron Horse 7.3. I am going to sell the manitou flow and replace it with another while it still has value new.

My riding types/style:
I am going to use it for dh races, lift/shuttle dh, and all-around fr and some aggresive trail riding w/ some climbs.

I have narrowed it down to three:

Marzocchi 66rc -7" - it is a tall fork and is slack, but maybe I could steepen it w/ adjustable reducers(I think this would make it way to tall in the end)

Marzocchi 66rc -6" - this is tall for a 6" fork, but would fit the 7.3 becasue it was designed around a 7" fork. I really like how dependable marzocchis are. My DJ2 has taken so much abuse and has not ever needed service.

Fox 36 van - This is light which might be nice, but I have read alot about it and heard it is more of a fork for smooth landing and I am not sure about its longterm durablity and depenability.

Mate when refuring to the 66, do you mean the 05 or 06 models.
From what i undersatnd the 06 is a completely redesigned (and improved ) from 05. It includes specific 66 lowers rather than lifted 888 ones, a much lower axel to crown height, new dampening and is lighter.

Ive herd great things about the 36 talis but my money would be on a 06 66, maybe a 66light?

Talking '06 forks, for the same given travel the 66's are actually a hair shorter than the 36's. Go for the 170mm 66 - it will be buttah on your IH.

You may also want to consider a BoXXer Ride. I know they're spec-ed on the 7.5 and they seem to ride well with that combo. With your 3 choices, I would say go for the 66 in 7" for '06.

you might also want to look into the travis line up. there is a 6"er and a 7.?"er and the big dog 8" all of which are single crown fork (i nkow there are also dc one's)

the 6" one it light and most likely shorter than both the 66 and the 36

So, would the '05, be way to slack; I could steepen it a little w/ adjustable reducer cups. Would it be too tall then? Should I just wait for the '06, or use a an '05 6"?

36 all the way if you have the money, foxes beat anything out in the market...but they are not cheap.

I would rather have a 7" fork, so I could wait till next year and get an '06 66 7" which would fit right, or I could go with an '05 66 6". DO you think 7" will be that much better dhing?

It might be a good idea, if (since this is my first dh/fr bike) if I just got a used super-t, then maybe in a few years I could find a used '06 66.

Sorry if anyone feels I wasted their time w/ this.

i think its all going to come down to you riding style, if you like a fork that ramps up, go for the 66, if you want linear, 36.
in my experiance, the 36 ramps up just a tad more then the 40 if that helps at all. dont really have anyhting to say about the 66.

I just put the Fox 36 van on my Turner 6-pack. The shock is amazing for a single crown fork. I have actually riding serious DH on it and the only thing I miss is the extra 2" of travel. Yet, the weight makes up for it when you pedal.

The 36 just makes your bike a lot more stable than any other manufacture!!

I don't know what ramping up is.
It's when the fork is soft and supple at first but gets a lot stiffer later. Linear means it stays pretty much the same stiffness the whole time (obviously it has to ramp up a little, but not that much.)

Oh, I think I would like ramping up then. I think I'm just going for the super-t, then maybe in a few years, (when I have a job) I will get a 66.
