so im looking at getting a full face and googles as my riding seems to be demanding that. at this point ive been looking at a 661 Full comp and Oakley MX O frames, because im poor. anyone tried this combo or have any input on either seperately? im doing a lot of riding in dense forest, so snow goggles are pretty much out. i really like oakley and would like to go with them but im not set in stone. any input would be great.

thanks,
Brendan

I dont like goggles cause they hurt your periferal vision to much. i had a 661 full bravo carbon and was very disapoited by it, sure it looks like a good deal but once you take some of the pads out and look at it you will see its really low quality and just looks the actual eps foam looks like something youd see in a 10 dollar helmet from 1994. I would save money for a giro mad max or bell full face.

I've been riding a 661 Full Comp for about 6 months now. It is holding up great and I have taken some pretty gnarly bails on it and it has come through with flying colors. It went with me to Whistler and everywhere. For googles, I have cheapo Spys I got on closeout. They work fine for me though they do fog occasionnaly. They are my only real pair of googles so I can't help you any more on that.

I have a 661 full bravo and Spy Alloy goggles. Great combo, both fit well and the goggles never fog (when you're doing runs).

I have Oakley M frame? I think, it's either that or the O frame, carbon color.

I use the Giro Mad Max helemet. They fit like they belong together. Plus it wasn't like $200+ for the set. I think helmet and goggles was under $140 (pretty budget I think) for 2 quality products.

I'd try the helmets on, as they ALL feel different.

ive found this out over time: all single lense goggles will fog, even durring runs if there is moderate humidity. Dual lense goggles will never fog no matter what, at least mine havnt, IMO theyre really worth the estra cash

I ran Smith for 3 seasons in a row and this year our team was picked up by Spy. Not once all season did my Alloy's fog! They also have a soft, cloth lining that is SO comfortable on your cheeks.

I've ran a Bell Bellistic for 3 seasons too and this year switched to a Giro Mad Max this year. It is by far and away a much more comfortable and light helmet. Also, it ventilates really, really well. I'm the sweat hog of sweat hogs and I have ALWAYS pulled my helmet off between runs. This year I found myself not taking it off on the lift. Big difference in comfort and ventilation and lots and lots of room for any brand of goggle.
Or get the brand new SIxSIXONE helmet...it's TITS!

it may be tits but is a very expensive pair of them. retail is $350 i believe, which is much more then i have to spend on a helmet.

ill take a look at the madmax as they really arent that badly priced.

See if you can try on some of these helmets before you buy one. I had a bellistic and a mad max and I really did not like either very much. Fit was never that good, even though I had the best size for me. They work fine for other people but I wouldn't buy one without trying it on. Also, I don't think I will buy anything besides DOT helmets any more. Safer, better fit, more comfortable and, at least to me, not too hot or heavy. Right now I am using an Oneal MX. 740 or 820 or something like that.

If D2's wern't so much I'd say one of those, but budget helmets are going to be what fits the best. The Giro fit my head much better then a Bell. That's all I got locally for bicycle DH helmets. Next time I might look into a carbon DH/Moto helmet. I believe Troy Lee uses Moto Helmets. You could get a normal one without the "troy lee" plastered all over it for a little less I think?

I too agree that the Mad Max is ubber comfy. Most helmets I use to rip off right away but that thing is so light and airflow is well you don't need to!

Jenson USA has got the 661 for somthing like $45. Buy a pair of Spys with DOUBLE lens (single lens will fog and you will not end up wearing them) on ebay and you would be good to go on a budget.

On another note, I would definitely spring for goggles. Nothing else provides the same protection and functionality. They aren't that expensive either. What, 25-35 for a nice pair? 5-8 for a new lens?

I use Smith Warps and love them. Only fog up if it's really hot or humid and I am breathing heavily and then totally stop moving. I have also had good luck with Scott goggles. It's another thing I would recommend to try before you buy; I had a pair of Dragons that I used and hated them once I got them on my helmet.

I have been running this combo for about three years. I wear glasses so I don't usually wear the goggles unless I have too. They shake all over my head and makes it dificult to focus sometimes.
Anyway- I looked a MadMAx and the biggest helmet they have squeezed the heck out my knoggin. I do have a really big skull though.
I love my 661 helmet and I will be getting another as soon as I decide whether I will race this year or not.

Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
I run a Bell Full Face helmet and I just got a pair of Smith Warp II (I think that's right) for my birthday. I ended up getting the hard carrying case and and extra lens for them as well (yellow and clear are the 2 I am running and double panes). I absolutely  them. They don't cut down as much on my periferal vision as the Oakley's that I tried on. I haven't really had much problem with them fogging up either and they are quite comfy to wear.

My combo too. They go together like lamb and tuna fish.

I have the O frames on a 661 helmet, I forget if it's the bravo or the comp. It was a good deal and so were the oakleys. I've taken some pretty hard tumbles, ran into a couple of trees, and the helmet has held up, and so has my dome so I guess it was a good buy. The only time the oakleys fog up on me is if I turn around and climb with them on or sit in one place for a while after I've been pedaling hard. So far the only trouble with them is, other than the place I bought them, I cant seem to find any other Oakley dealers, I've tried moto and bike shops. For that reason you might want to look at Spy's or Smith's, the Oakleys are cheep and dont fog, but it's hard to find replacement lenses and tear offs on a whim. I also added a quick strap, so the goggles are hooked to one side of my helmet and velcro on to the other.

Believe him as he has hit his head so many times at Northstar it's not cool.

I run the TLD D2 w/Oakley or Spy gaggles and love it. They do fog but only when I have stopped and it's hot as heck outside.
