Do you mean 8" disks? I can't remember... does Avid make a 6, 7 and 8 inch rotor?
I've got the 8 inchers front and rear, but they're only reccomended with 20mm thru axle fronts, though I know a few guys who've modified the adapter to make it work with a standard QR.

Supposedly there is an in-between size ("freeride") which would be perfect for what I ride. I have heard that the Fox Forx are okay with bigger discs due to the lowewr's design, but I'd like to hear from someone actually running it...safely.
Good idea... keeping your front wheel attached is a good thing. Have you contacted Fox directly about this?
I really wish Fox would get their heads out of their butts and make a 20mm thru axle and all these issues would be solved and maybe, just maybe I'd be running one of their forks.
Ive been running them for about 8 months. Hard technical riding, freeriding, no true downhill, but much more aggressive than xc. 99.9% of the riding was in Lynn Woods, MA, if that helps. The fox is super stiff. I know quite a few people run 8" discs even though it voids warranty and i have never actually heard of anyone ripping a qr free. The 185 avids are pretty damn sweet. Id take em over hydraulics any day (but thats a whole other agument)
Im actually thinking of getting some of those SWEET avid ultimate levers that are cncd. I saw a guy running them and they are awesome feeling. I dont know though, i think i would just end up breaking them.

Yeah, I'll be amped to get one of those 185s up front. My 160's are good, but that much more power would be so key. I havn't seen the new levers though. I still love the return and feel of good ole XT's.
