So, after not being able to remove the FSA headset race from my Psylo and paying full retail for a Chris King headset as a replacement, I got home from the LBS to put my wheel on the Z150 and mount the brakes.

Well... I quickly realize that the Avid 8" brake adapters that worked fine with the Psylo and the Hayes brakes on my Psylo, don't quite fit on the Z150!!!!! What's up with that?

I thought they were "International Standard" mounts?

For some reason, the adapter needs washers or something to space it out away from the fork about 1/8". Is there a Hayes adapter that's specifically made for Marzocchi?

What could be going on here?

I looked around and found a Hayes adaptor from a wholesaler, The Hawley company, you would have to get it thru a bike shop. #BKPT7030 adapts a 74mm caliper to 51mm mount for 8" rotor.
You could also call Hayes 888-686-3472 and ask them.

There should be no problem with running a few spacers in order to get the caliper aligned properly. I had to do the same thing when i installed my brakes on my 2003 Jrt.

Hmmm... I'll buy some washers for now and make it work, but I may just order a Hayes adapter. It just seems wierd that the spacing is off by almost a 1/4" as compared to the Psylo.

Is it really off a 1/4" ? Mine was only off by 1/8". Just make sure that the screws thread far enough into the adapter so they don't pull out under heavy loads.

Well... compared to the Psylo, it's off nearly 1/4"... If I slide the caliper all the way (it was in the middle with the Psylo).

For now, I'll just make sure I've got enough of the bolt in the adapter so as to be safe. I'll just order a Hayes adapter and hopefully it will give me a bit more room.

Hey Jason-

I had this exact thing happen to me. The Avid 8" adapter placed the caliper too close to the fork on my Super T. At first I spaced it out with some 3mm washers (I think they were 3mm...) but then I had a 8" Hayes mount that was for QR20 laying around. I put that on and it was perfect.

Before using the new mount I contacted Avid and they told me to space it out and use longer bolts or buy the Hayes adapter.

Sounds like you on the right track,

Kevin

I remember Bruce doing the opposite a couple years ago so that he could fit an 8" rotor on his Z5 with standard qr dropouts. He actually bought the adaptor you needed and machined it down so that the caliper would be closer to the fork. If he had only known that a rock shox adaptor would have worked. I hope I don't have that problem with the Avids on my Super T. I'm pretty tapped out, buying one more $30 adaptor may send my wife into a frenzy.

If you need my Avid 8" adapter, you're welcome to it. It's all yours if you want.

If you are all set-up now, how about a review on Feed the Habit? You are probably one of only a few people to have significant time on a '02 Super T, '02 Sherman Breakout, and '03 Z150. As you know, it is often debated if 1.5 is legit, and whether we are "in need" of 6" SC. Also, it is debated whether or not the Z150 is up to the task of a 6" SC compared to the Sherman. If you did a three fork shootout on Feed the Habit with weights (don't know if you have them...) and impressions that would be AWESOME!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Which one is stiffest? Which one tracks the best? Which handles drops the best? Which do you have the most confidence in?

I myself am very interested and I know others would be too. All I know is the Z150 at nearly 7lbs better be as stiff or stiffer than you old Super T because it weighs more than the '01/'02 Super Ts. I know my 6" '01 Super T is only 6.7lbs with axle on my digital scale. 6.4lbs without axle.

Inquiring minds want to know.....

HA!!! Thanks for the prodding, Kev. Unfortunately, we've had an uncharacteristically wet and rainy spring here in UT. Every time I plan a ride, it rains and every time I have something else planned (date with the lady, etc.) it's nice.

I've just got to wait for the weather to clear and then I'll have time to flog the Z150.

I do plan a head-to-head comparison with the Sherman for sure. I guess the comparison with the 02 Super T could be on there too.

I'm looking forward to riding it, but I've gotta get the weather to cooperate. Look for something on FTH sometime in June.
