im looking for the exploded diagram for this /04 888r. last fall i bought this fork used but havent been able to use up until now. at this moment im only recieving 7" of travel, so i changed oil and re-placed with proper amount, re-built with the same 7"travel. i want 8" travel...can anyone help?

first id like to know is: if the previous owner had replaced the cartriges with the 7" ones, should there be 7" or 8" of stantion above the dust seal when all put back together?

secondly: which way does the silver machined thingy go that sits on the damping cartrige and holds the spring ( has 4 large holes at the sides, 2 different size holes at either end ) ?

it may have been re-built improperly before i bought it, so therefore i re-built it improperly cause i followed the teardown and built it the same way!

please help,

darryl

thanks zane, thats a good start.......

now since i bought the fork i've changed one spring in the compression side to x-firm (green) as i was instucted too, and have topped up the oil to 215cc max.....

might this 1" of travel i feel im missing be the 'progressiveness' of my set-up? im sure i feel it bottom....id hate to find out the hard way as it blows seals......

any thought as to the oreintation(sp?) of the silver machined piece with 4 holes that the springs drops on to down the damper shafts?

thanks much!

The silver bit should be with the larger diameter up,so the spring sits on the end of it.
The oil volume is a useless measurement when filling a fork as you can never guarantee you've got all the old oil out,I set my 04 7" 888's oil height to 180mm from the top of the stanchion's fully compressed with the springs out.
That gives me full travel without harsh bottoming, but Im 210lbs with all my gear on,so if you're lighter(which wouldnt be hard!) then a lower oil height(like 190mm) would be fine.
