Disclaimer: This is not an anti-marzocchi rant, simply putting information out there and seeing if anybody else has had this problem.
So, I got an 888 a couple weeks ago and fell in love with it on the first ride. I rode it twice on a local freeride trail and then loaded up the bike and drove back to school. When I unloaded it I noticed some oil on the lowers, starting at the bottoms and going about half way up. I figured it maybe had been shipped like that, wiped it down and forgot about it. Well, I didn't get to ride it again until yesterday, and once again, when I was done riding I noticed oil on the lowers. I was particularly concerned since the trail I rode had no drops or anything that I thought would put any stress on the fork. So, I wiped it down again, grabbed the front brake a few times to see if the caliper was leaking, and put the bike away.
Well, today, I made sure there was no noticeable oil on the legs, I did a small drop to see if the problem presented itself again, and sure enough there was oil seeping down the legs. I couldn't figure it out because the oil was seeping down from parts in the middle of the legs. Further investigation showed 2 hairline fractures, completely unnoticeable if not for the oil leaking out of them. Each leg apparently has a very small crack (in different places on each leg) that allows very small amounts of oil to seep out when the fork is compressed.
Needless to say, it's back at the shop ready to be shipped back to Marzocchi. Anybody have a problem like this before?
