yeah so I finaly did it and put guards on my 888. All I can really say is they fit, seem strong, and now when I go over the bars I don't have to freak out thinking I just destroyed my stanchions. They might not be as pretty as a naked 888, but it's cheap insurance.

Are those core rats?

How 'bout giving us a pic we can enlarge a little, even if it's just one of them? My secondhand 888 came with a pre-gouged stanchion. They look pretty against the black ano.

If somebody could PM direction on how to make pics bigger or clickable then I'll do that.

Yeah those are from core rat. I had to do a little nip-tuck before installing them. You can just slap them on and go, but they really stick out at the top. So, I did some sanding and added some padding between the guard and fork leg.

Normally when I attach pics they automatically become larger when you click on them. Try puting them on pinkbike and then giving us the links.

Told ya.

Glad you like them. Just be prepared to justify them to the random riders (like, say, BMXman) who will bitch at you because they don't think they're neccessary.

It'll be easy to justify them. I'll just point down at your fork. ;)
No seriously I don't G.A.F. if random people don't like them. Heck I don't like them, but the positive out weighs the fashion-police.

I run the same guards on my 888's. I'm pretty sure they already saved my fork at least once at N*. Worth it if you're going to be crashing in rocks. Didn't really come into play at Whistler/ less rocky trails. They do tend to shift in a crash, remeber to adjust them so they don't rub holes in yout crown/cables.

When I got my new 888r at the end of the summer I told myself I would immediately put stanchion guards on them before they got messed up like my old Super T. Of course I did one ride before I got guards and I gouged the hell out of one stanchion within minutes. Thats painful on a fork that expensive.
