888vf???

Ok, yes I used the search function and there is no mention of the VF here on the Monkey. Now since we all know this is the most informed community on the net, I need some info on this particular model. From what I can tell, it looks like a pretty watered down version of it's big brother, RR.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge/experience on/with this thing? I'm asking because I found a brand new one for $500. Is it worth replacing my Slider+ with?

Isn't it a Jr. T damper in a 888 chassis? I'd stick with the slider +, even if it were the high end model I might be inclined to stick with the slider +.

I've just been kinda down on the Slider+ lately due the lack of small bump sensitivity and the SPV issues they seem to develop. So, I've been looking around for something else to play around on. The 888's come to mind pretty quickly, but the almost required drop crowns, compression sleeve etc., have left me somewhat gun shy there. The Dorado's look mighty nice for sure, but I've never had a chance to actually check one out. Basically I want what everybody else does, uber plush, light and stiff. :mumble:

OK, I wasn't going to say anything, but we all tried your forks in the parking lot and everybody thought they sucked. Sorry. The rest of the bike/suspension was awesome. Like, REALLY awesome. It passed the drop test with flying colors.
What you need is something that is about as stiff or stiffer than your current forks but with real quality travel. I have no idea how the 888vf are going to feel, but I pretty much hate the way Jr.T's feel. They top out real easy and they bottom out real easy, and they are annoying to adjust. I think ABS might have some of those 888vf's on a Norco or something. You should call them.

Mike is thinking about selling his Super T's,(He has tweaked them to feel REALLY nice.) so you might want to call Bicycle Shop Santa Cruz to see what he'll sell them for (831)454-0909. He also has some olda Boxxers, ('02 I think) and I must say that I like those a lot as well.

In terms of 888's, you really can't match the specs for a 888rc as far as I'm concerned. It's so sweet; really a great fork. I like mine in 7" of travel and so does Eric, and that's what mike will be replacing his supers with. For your bike, riding around SC and Soquel demo, go with an 03/04 super or red boxxers. If you like the beef, go with 7" 888rc. I wouldn't even look at a vf personally 'cause I ACTUALLY have used the dials. Like, every place different I ride the bike, it seems I need to tweak it a little bit. Those dials are worth the money. Hell you can't ride right now anyway right? Be patient! Save up and buy the expensive stuff!
P.S.'Course the 66rc looks nice too.

Paul, you crack me up man! I know, the fork just doesn't feel right when paired with the Pushed RC, thus the dilema. I've really been eyeing up the new 888's but crap, the prices are killing me. I was trying to hook up the one DLo was selling, but he said the sale was pending and I haven't heard anything back from him in a while.

In other news, Answer/Manitou is sending me out a new SPV Evolve kit to replace the original SPV stuff that has since failed. (I'm thinking that was probably the reason the fork was feeling like ass.) I was trying to hook up the 170mm Dorado TPC+ kit instead, but that was a no go. I'll be doing the swap sometime in the next week or so and see if it makes much of a difference. And yeah, you're right, I SHOULDN'T be riding. But since the cast came of last week, the wrist is feeling better and better every day. I ended up checking out the little set of jumps over by 'Tola Sunday just to get a feel for the bike again. Didn't hit any of the doubles, just did a few curb drops and watched some kids hit the wall ride.

I'll be riding again in another couple of weeks providing it doesn't start raining. Hell, maybe next weekend :thumb:

As far as i know, the 888VF is a JnT in 888 dressing, so stick with the slider+ it supposedly has much better damping than the SSV on the 888VF model.
This is pretty much what I was gonna say, the 888vf is the replacement for the monster T2 (came stock on norcos).

Big Jr.T = Overweight, underdamped fork
