I just received a 98 Boxxer from Sprungshoulders for next to nothing - thanks again Sprungshoulders. And thanks to Fulton too for the top crown - fits perfect!

Well this particular fork is a 20mm thru axle, but it also comes with a QR conversion kit. I want to use this QR conversion kit until I can get a good used front 20mm wheel (maybe something like a Mavic 521 or something). But I can't figure out how to use these adaptors and mount the wheel.

Yeah I'm a dumbass when it comes to stuff like this.

So if anyone out there had this fork and used it at one point with a QR front wheel, can you run me through the wheel mounting steps?

Thanks in advance.

I had the 99, which was the same fork. I never heard of anyone using a QR with it.

ive seen homemade qr adapters for that fork, normally its a plug that fits into where the axle is supposed to be, in both dropouts, and with a cutout/guide to house the qr axle.
if thats what you have then you just have to align both "plugs" so they point the same way and use a rear qr skewer.

I remember seeing some sort of RST fork (Alphafa???) a few years ago that had 20mm adapters. I thought it was a really smart idea . Essentially what Vitox said, they should just plug into the 20mm holes on each leg and from there they should look like regular QR dropouts. Did you get a long QR skewer with the conversion kit??? If not, I'm assuming a rear wheel skewer would work.

yea those are the adapters i was talking about.

1line them up
2insert wheel
3tighten QR
4tighten dropout bolts (be careful, its magnesium)
5dont forget you dont have a real thruaxle.

Vitox was right - I just needed the rear QR skewer and it worked. Just took it for a spin and it felt good. I think I'd benefit from a flat crown vs a drop crown though. Anyone got an older Boxxer Flat crown they'd like to trade for a drop crown?
