so i found someone even more far right of michael savage - joseph swank - on the topic of a mosque in hamtramck MI playing their call to worship 5X/day. He opens up gently with:
I guess the Mafia call to prayer will be next. Then the Crips and Bloods call to prayer. Then the idiots who broke into McCormick’s 7-11 last night. Oh well, so much for insanity in liberal, lamebrain America.

the muslims sought & gained approval from the city council so this should be dead issue, right?

over in arlington, va, however, the mount olivet methodist church (arlington's oldest church site still in continuous use) has had to lower their bells to below 60 db - just below ambient traffic noise - due to protests from local residents. Residents "chimes" in
But the vocal "anti-bell" minority are bristling at what they say is the church's attempt to foist religion on them and present that argument in sweeping constitutional strokes.

Comparing a mosque in Mi to a churck in NoVa does not make sense to me. Sounds more like a noise issue than a religeous one. And noise ordinances are the responsibility of the local community. A church, mosque or local business should be held to the same standards.

Swank is paranoid - you can't even select or right-click on his stuff (like that's going to stop anyone from lifting anything offa his site.)

he has other not so thinly disguised anti-muslim jewels. He proffers up one a week it seems.

perhaps he should check out the muslim sponsored peace rally in phoenix this sunday (AZ republic coverage), which seems to be a step in the right direction - even if a few years late.

i'm sure arguments may begin to be defined in the local noise ordinance vein, but given enough time, it will be turned against the protesters as "religious intolerance", which may be valid.

personally, i find the muslim call to prayer to be an enchanting & mystical - even soothing - melody. Of course, my opinion might change if i had to hear it 5X/day.

one of my top 10 CDs is the unofficial soundtrack to the last temptation of christ, assembled by peter gabriel. It has some of the most beautiful music from the middle east. Camelspotting is fair, more for the arabic neophytes (a.k.a. infidels)

Don’t change the noise ordinance to accommodate any religion. Regardless, anybody using a loudspeaker at 6:00 a.m. needs a cock-punching.

If they want to do the loudspeaker thing within the current law, then go for it.

who's using a loudspeaker?

I like church bells. Then again, I enjoyed the train going by my house in Florida twice a day.

In a sign of the deep changes in this once predominantly Polish town, the City Council is expected Tuesday to pass a noise ordinance amendment that would permit mosques to issue the traditional Islamic call to prayer over loudspeakers. But some longtime residents are resisting what they consider an affront to non-Muslims

Screw them. And if someone complains about church bells, and they are over the noise limit, screw them too.

It's the 21st Century. Allah/Jesus/L Ron Hubbard shall bless you with a cheap digital watch...
