I know the new Demo is more functional, but I really liked the previous Demos that had the machined "ribcage" down by the shock.

Remember, Specialized is probably the only bike company that still makes 'concept bikes' the way the auto industry does 'concept cars'. Some of these are just to generate interest, not cash sales of units. Also, the design team gets to see what people are actually interested in.

I remember when they did a tandem out of wood - mock up, sanded, polished and painted to look like a monococque - just to see if there was enough interest in very cool, very expensive tandems. There wasn't.

And yeah, i remember the Po brothers with their machined Cannondale beast back in the mid-90's.

Nobody...the Fatboy is in the hard copy SpecEd bike catalog down at my LBS. It's not a concept. I like the looks of it, but I wouldn't spend $1700 on a cruiser. The argyle details on the Demos are stickers so they can be removed if argyle is passe to the buyer. The argyle stuff looks worlds better than the "tatoo" version they offer as a frame only purchase.

I think you mean "Pong," primarily Alex. And I challenge anyone here to find a pic of that bike, I ain't too good with the interweb but I've looked and came up with nothing.

I don't think the $1700 for the Fatboy is prohibitive, btw. I remember the Schwinn 'Classic' Phantom cruiser that was supposed to retail for about $2999 back in 2000 [i think] - with original castings or some such rot.

The Fatboy looks like a fun ride and very cool looks. However, if it was just a concept, i wouldn't have been surprised.

I mention this mostly 'cuz sometimes you'll see something from Spec. that's just a pipe dream, but there's always a reason behind it...

I got to see the Pong bike in person, and I kick myself in the butt every time I think how dumb I was not to take a picture.....:bonk:

Yeah, I saw it that year at Interbike, but that was in the days before digital photography and ubiquitous cameras and stuff that fit in your pocket.

Wasn't there a picture of it in National Geographic (or was it Smithsonian)? Ya ought to be able to find it in the back copies at your local library.

Awsome. Where did you find it?

When was that presented? In the era of GT RTS's and that Trek lever bike?
It was about the 1997 era, just about when GT went from RTS 1.75" travel to the LTS with double that.

Trek came out with a carbon OCLV front end on the T4C lever 9500 beast about the same time.
