In a van.... down by the river
So last night my oldest boy (just turned 5) asked to take the training wheels off his 12" bike. We whipped 'em off, lowered the seat a bit, and 30 minutes later he was riding 30-40' on his own without falling!

The of course my 3 year old said "Take my wheels off too, daddy." To which I replied, "Let's do it, liddle man!" 10 minutes later he was making little 5-10 foot unassisted jaunts.

And the best part - I asked 'em what it means when you can ride without training wheels and they both replied in unison:

"WE GET TO RIDE DIRT!!"

Two kids skiing and biking on their own......... one more to go. :thumb:

Excellent! Way to go , Dad! :thumb:

Some of my best memories from growing up are the times my Dad took us skiing, and camping and such.

My older son got off his just after 4th BD, the younger at about 3 1/2. The younger one did Mammoth's downtown trail a week after his 4th BD, 12" wheels, hitting bumps, butt off the seat, feet off the pedals, landing back on the seat & start pedalling again. Last year he was 2nd, 16 & Under DH US Nationals at Mammoth.

D00d. You are livin' the dream.
Your life is so unbelieveable, I don't believe it. Really.
When will the photoshops of the little monkeys on training-wheel-less bikes be ready?

Yeah, it's funny how that happens. My brother and I are now good friends and do a lot more together, even though he tried to kill me a time or 2.

congratulations man! my daughter was asking me for a long time to take off her training wheels and i guess that just because shes my baby girl, i didn't want to do it cuz i didn't want her to get hurt.. So, at age six(yes, im very protecive) i yanked em' off and she pretty much immediatly rode like a champ.. there was no sharp turns by any means, but she could do laps around the house and go to the end of the street, crash, get backon and ride back! I was impressed.. so i yanked em off of my 4 y/o's bike and gave him a shove and he pretty much did a pile driver right into the ground.. so, hes happy with his training wheels for the moment... ill get em off soon though!
