hey all. i just picked up a 2002 ShiverSC and plan to get a DMR Trailstar frame. The standard Trailstar is designed for a 4" fork and the LT (long travel)is for a 5" front end both with a 71 degree HA. Now, since my Shiver is 120mm, not 130mm. like most 5" forks (and it seems to have a shorter axle to crown than other as well) which would be the better choice? Do i run the risk of too quick steering on the LT or too slow on the regular? will it be a non-issue as the difference is so small? the bike will be used for jumping exclusively.

non-issue. steeper may well be better for jumping. bmx bikes tend to be steep, after all

I think the BB height is mostly dependant upon the recommended fork...
He's already got the 120mm fork. So, he could pick the 4" model frame and get a slacker head angle and higher bottom bracket, or..
LT frame and get steeper head angle and lower bottom bracket.

But actually the axle to top of crown measurement of a fork is a better measure to judge a fork for a frame to maintain geometry.

Since the shiver sc has the short axle to crown measurement I would go with the 4" frame. I would prefer slacker than 71 degrees anyway.

aaahaahaha, noone could tell you're an Aussie, could they?! And I don't beleive I googled to see if there's actual measurements of one as a reference.

Anyway, I'd say get the LT, steeper angles are a winner, and it'll be a bit more "futureproof" if you decide to get a longer travel fork.

A lot of 5 inch forks are actually 120mm travel forks. You'll be fine.

Face it, Parts. You've been pretending to be Australian on the Internet for what, 7-8 years now? It landed you the wife you wanted; luckily you fooled her, but now you've been outed by the real deal.

Just drop the quirky turns of speech and the bad accent, and admit you're really from Peoria, and we'll still love you. Except maybe Warwick. I think he'll still despise you regardless.

Don't worry Mike, Partsy still speaks Strine with the best of them, except his missus won't let him say c*nt, which tends to cut an Australians vocal output in half. ;) :D

ohh! this is ultimate BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 inches are like 127 mm, there is only a 7mm difference.
your tire will deform more than that just by sitting on it. even your tire pressure will make more difference in your HA than that!!!

that is neglible. unless you are like ultra-sensitive, and also can tell the difference in gravitational pull between being in the 1st or 2nd floor of your house. then.. well.... maybe....
