“Fast and Furious” was an attempt to intercept gun-trafficking that sent 2,000 guns to cartel operatives via straw buyers. Critics believe that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder saw the program as an opportunity to embarrass U.S.-based gun dealers, and help galvanize support for increased gun-control measures, while controlling where and how the guns would be “walked” across the border. But the operation went horribly wrong as the guns went unaccounted for, leading to the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry last December in Arizona, and the deaths of untold others inside Mexico – all using guns provided by the ATF. Holder denied knowledge of the operation at a U.S. House hearing on May 3rd, but subsequent revelations clearly show both Holder and the White House had been informed about this program as it ran off the rails.

A bigger scandal should be a 450billion jobs bill to create 500,000 jobs when BoA is laying off 300,000 and the post office is looking at laying off 350,000 so we're spending all the 450 billion for a net loss of 150,000 jobs?

Or we could not spend anything and have 1.2m more out of work? Is that what you'd call "success?"

Nope, double fail.

And do you think these "infrastructure" jobs would go anywhere? If people are so desperate to work, why isn't McDonalds full? Or Lowes or any of the retail places that I see constant Hiring signs? They're going to suddenly go running out on the system and go turn the slow/stop sign for $10 and hour? Please.
Most people think they are worth way more than they are.

But I wish it would work for those that really want to work.

Seriously, have you been to a place like Detroit or Las Vegas with massive unemployment? Trust me, there are no "help wanted" signs in McDonalds (at least in Vegas, anyway)...

Yeah, and those "infrastructure" jobs don't go anywhere, and all those construction workers take all the money that they made, put it all in a huge pile in the backyard and burn it. Spend it locally? Ha! Screw that, it's much more fun to burn it, take it out of circulation and watch deflation spiral around the toilet bowl as America crashes and burns.

So I suppose the jobs bill will cure the new highest all time poverty rate in this country? Why is it now that a President who has kept us in a war for 3 years is not a war criminal when the previous one was? Why is the worst economy in recent history not the fault of the current congress and President? Why do you want this President to succeed so bad that you'll ignore every bad thing that goes on or find a way to try and blame it on segments of society and the system that do not think the way you do?

Nice pivot away from the economic multiplier bit...

I agree that the President should have to answer as to why we're still at war.

The worst economy in recent history began 6mo before the end of the last one. Has this president mitigated it? Yup, at least according to the CBO. Could it have been better? Yup. Do the Republicans share much of the blame for why it's not worse? Yup.

Look, I only agree with ~50% of what the president's doing right now. Things like his payroll tax holiday (and the employer portion) benefit me as a small business owner far more than any deregulation that the GOP has proposed. Perfect? Nope. Would I prefer that far more money was dumped on state and federal employees in the form of further hiring/salary/etc? Absolutely.

Our GOP governor has slashed public salaries in this state. The benefit to me is ~$200 (as a property tax payer). Every day I talk to TAAs who are now paying $500 more per month in health care and retirement costs, and who suddenly can't afford to buy my bikes. I've probably lost ~10 sales alone to TAs who are now literally below the poverty line due to the Republican "economic stimulus". That's $3,500 in lost revenue alone, with a measly $200 benefit, and I'm supposed to start thanking the GOP for this?

Stimulus has an economic multiplier to it. A construction worker employed on a new government project gets $50k/year. That's one employed person. If that construction worker were to hire a full time butler for $50k/year (as an example), that's 2 people employed. If that butler were to hire a cook for $50k/year, that's 3 people employed, and $150k in economic benefit all for just $50k/year investment by the federal government. Obviously that construction worker isn't going to hire a full time butler at 100% of his pre-tax salary, but you get the idea, it has to go *somewhere*. It's dinner out, it's taking his kids to the movies, it's buying a new bike, it's *spending*. It's added demand where there is currently none. We're facing a deflationary spiral based on shrinking demand, and if the government doesn't step up with a stimulus package that takes the place of that demand, we're in for another long, long decade of pain. Why else are 10y US treasuries trading below 2%?

So does the President have 100% perfect ideas? Nope. But I'll take them over the "Oh hell no" GOP congress who has blocked him at literally every single turn.

I agree with your logic on the multiplier and see your point. For clarification, what's a TA and TAA?

So, as I've stated before, I respect your views and thoughts on economic fronts so let me ask you this...if, IF, the governmetn could regulate or do something about high gas prices (consumer prices rose last month due only to fuel and food cost) wouldn;t that be a quicker stimulus to the ecpnomy, i.e. get more disposable income back out in the market?

Sorry, TAA = Teachers Assistant Association, basically the mini-union for TAs at the University here. They got screwed along with most other public employees in the most recent budget.

As for your question on gas prices, yup, if it dropped in half tomorrow it would be a massive economic stimulus... The only problem is that there isn't anything the government can do about it other than release oil from the strategic oil reserve, and the last time the administration did that he was attacked for playing politics with oil prices... Furthermore, with the rise in international consumption, anying the government *does* do short of price fixing will get swallowed up by other consumers worldwide. So yes, if the government could do something, it would.

To address the job problem, where i live in prissy north bergen county, people are to stuck up to get off their unemployment, help wanted signs everywhere for modest 10-15 an hour jobs at local retail stores, but why would you do that when obama is just going to extend your unemployment for another year, getting paid to do nothing.

It was in the paper about a year ago, a farmer put a add out for picking grapes. 15 an hour for unlimited hours, One person applied for the job, so much for illegals stealing all the jobs we want. Picking grapes for 15 an hour, hell, i would do that-why not!

1. Dammit, those guys would have NEVER gotten ahold of gunz if it weren't for the ATF!!

2. Well, the program WAS designed to get gunz into meh heeko and if they know it was an ATF injected gun, that kinda worked no?

3. Mexico sucks
