I was in Yakima over the weekend hung out with Oscar over at Simple Bicycle Co. He had one of his new frames on the work bench and I was floored so I took some pictures figuring that some of you might dig on it. It's a standard '509' frame.. nothing custom on this one

Cool to see. I'm surprised it weighs so much. Mine is about a pound lighter than that, but it's really a completely different design all together. I'm still loving mine... just wish I had a fork so I could ride it right now...

yeah your frame is a lot lower (= less tubing),
and this frame's yoke and dropouts probably add a few ounces (+ strength).

i do really dig oscar's work;
if i lived closer i'd definitely talk with him about a custom frame.

yea cru I'm thinkin all that cnc'd stuff in the rear triangle adds some girth to this frame. My simple has the tubed chainstays like yours. It's pretty light though. I think my whole bike is sub 30 lbs.

I'm trying to figure out how to raise the funds and get a new frame from simple so I can run a bigger tire in the backend. My tubed chainstays are a tight fit for my 2.3 kenda

Why do you want bigger than 2.3? Are you downhilling in mud?

Sounds like he is saying that he likes his 2.3 kenda but it is tighter than he would like due to the tubed stays. Maybe he can't slam his wheel or is screwed if he tweaks his rim.

Yea... I've got hardly any clearance. Tightening down my axle with the chain tensioned without rubbing my tire has become an art.

6.2 lbs isn't light... but since when were dirt jumpers weight weenies? I'd rather have some extra weight and know I was on something solid. I can remember my friends riding bmx bikes that weighed like 40 lbs too. I suppose that weight is more important to some than others though.

When BMX — bicycle motocross — makes its debut this month on the world’s biggest athletic stage, the Beijing Olympic Games, keep an eye on U.S. gold-medal contender Donny Robinson. He’s from California, but his bike is from Yakima.

Robinson’s BMX bike was crafted by Oscar Camarena, who recently moved his small shop, Simple Bicycle Company, from Zillah to Yakima.

Camarena, 37, is no stranger to high-level BMX racing, having competed in the world championships three times in his early 20s. Three Camarena BMX bikes have been ridden to world titles, and Yakima cycling time-trial specialist Donna Smith won her second world title on a Camarena cycle.
But this is the Olympics, and Camarena is truly excited.

“The BMX worlds, I’ve been there. I’ve competed there,” he says. “But I’ve never been been to an Olympic Games. It’s just amazing, the fact that something I built will be in there.”

Camarena has built frames for Robinson since the latter was a prepubescent BMX phenom, long before he became one of the biggest names in the BMX world. This is how big: A couple of months ago, Robinson was featured on a new line of beverage cups at McDonald’s — riding a bicycle built by Camarena.

Pete start a college fund for your kiddo and take a slice off the top for being a good dad! And btw I've been riding these shuttled freeride trails in Leavenworth and they're burly. One keeps handing me to the dogs It's feckin rough. peace
