JERUSALEM - The armed uprising against Israel is a mistake and must end, interim Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said in an interview published Tuesday, signaling his determination to change direction after Yasser Arafat’s death.

Palestinian militants have enjoyed broad support among Palestinians during more than four years of conflict with Israel. Abbas’ affirmation of a somewhat unpopular view comes at the height of his campaign for Palestinian Authority president.

I fear that region will know no peace until the dunes have been transformed into a solidified ceramic sea.

I have a sinking feeling that this will fail. The US/Isreali connection is such an effective rallying cry for extremists that further violence will be encouraged to keep the hate flowing our way.

Hopefully it will happen. If Isreal has proved anything, it's that playing the victim card correctly can reap huge gains.

Anyone who recognizes that the world is getting smaller every day and what is good for the world is ultimately good for us as well. Or anyone that cares about human life in general. But yeah, who honestly cares about that crap??
