ABC Picks Up British Show 'Wife Swap'
(Friday, January 24 10:00 PM)
HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - - A hit unscripted series in the United Kingdom, "Wife Swap," is making its way to the United States.
The title, which conjures up visions of a 1970s swingers party, is racier than the concept: Two married women switch places with one another for 10 days, living with the other's family and taking on the other woman's household duties. At the end of the 10 days, the families get together to discuss what they experienced.
An ABC official tells the New York Post that the network is developing an American version of "Wife Swap." The stateside version will be called simply "The Swap."
The show has become a hit for British broadcaster Channel 4. The first episode, in which a woman opposed to interracial relationships was sent to live with a sexist black man, generated huge buzz that led to increased ratings for future editions.
The most recent episode drew 5.7 million viewers, a sizable audience for the U.K.
