I have a FSA PIG DH on the intense and a Chris King on the cortina. Clearley the king is smoother feeling then the pig. It just feels that way.

On the intense the headset feels funny. It feels almost........not smooth. Not near as smooth as the chris king is. I had a ringle in the intense before which I took the crown race off and set aside. There was a king race on the fork I was using and the bicycle shop said they put the FSA one on there. I am using a headlock gizmo and it is tight, no play what so ever. Cups are pressed all the way in as well.

I am wondering, is there a giant difference in fork races? I wish I could pop it off and switch them to see if there is a difference. I dunno why the Pig DH would feel so crummy compared to my king, or even my girlfriends $200 schwinn.

I suspect that the king may still be on the steer tube and not mating well with the FSA that is on there. I tried fitting the other race I have up to the bottom of the headset and it felt the same. It just doesn't feel right and is annoying me a little.

While riding it feels fine, no play or anything, but on a stand it feels not smooth.

Just curious....

This was just kind of a thought, but what about if there wasn't a ton of greese in the headset? Would that cause it to feel weird?

I used to have a king on my DHi, now I'm running an FSA PigDH...... Feels very smooth. When you compare races between the King and the FSA, there is a noticeable difference. Any mechanics wanna chime in on this one?

The actual crown races, the part that is fit onto the shoulder of the steertube is specific to each make of headset, you can't mix and match. Well they are not designed to mix and match but there may be some which are interchangeable by coincidence.

But I think you are talking about the lower bearings. If so you'd have to take some measurements of the inner diameter, outer diameter and depth. Plus King headset bearings aren't supposed to be removed at home but only by King.

No not the lower bearings. Just the race.

I am gonna go home and toss some greese on there just for sh!t's and giggles to see. I think the bicycle shop did change the race, just didn't lube it worth beans. It might just need some lube!

I'll keep in touch on this one though
