i noticed yesterday that my right SLX shifter lever has 3/4" of play in it. everything seems to be working right, it shifts fine, but i dont remember it having that much play in it. ive had my bike for about a year now and my left shifter only has a tiny bit of play in it. maybe an 1/8"

think its falling apart or needs adjusting? i have no clue how it all works. i just ride the thing

Do you run the gear display? I noticed that mine developed some play after I took it off but never did when it was on. No solution though, I broke the lower lever off with my thigh and upgraded to XT

Yeah. I don't know if Shimano would approve but thats how I ran mine. I like my brake on the inside and the shifter on the outside and the display got in the way. I run my XT that way too

how do you take them off? do you just remove these 2 screws

Thats it. Those actually look pretty similar to the LX on my DH bike. This is what they look like without the display

I just realized that doesn't answer your question at all

but if you ever want to run your shifters/levers the other way around, there you go!

im not sure if the SLX has it but on the Xts you there is a little plate that is on the inside of the shifter(where the bar slides through) that you can pull off and screw on as a cover so dirt stays out. ill see if i can take a pic real quick
