Fellow Riders,

The Forest Service is evaluating putting in a new trail near Skykomish and we need you to send in letters of support today. This is a rare opportunity for us to get a new trail in the under-served highway 2 corridor. If we don't act today we may not get another similar opportunity for a new trail.

More information and a sample letter can be found on our Wiki. Here's the link:

You can either fax or mail in a letter. E-mail is not accepted.

Letters can be sent in until Tueday. Please take the 5 minutes to send in a letter, if we don't get letters of support in this trail might not be built.

" Trail Overview

The Skykomish Ranger District is currently analyzing the proposed construction of the Alpine Baldy Trail # 1240. The proposal includes trailhead construction at the junction of Forest Service Road (FSR) 6066 and 6067, an approximately 10 mile long mountain bike/hiker loop trail via Alpine Baldy mountain, via road-to-trail conversions on FSR 6066/6067, and a hiker only spur trail from Harlan Saddle up to East Beckler Peak (latter of approximately 1.6 miles in length). Thanks everyone for the support! It'll be an xc loop trail, I presume. Even a few letters of support will make a huge difference, keep sending them in!

Here's a sample support letter that's a bit shorter. You can mod it and send it in, it'll only take a few minutes. This was drafted by Maarten, a BBTC supporter, trail builder and board member.

Dear Mr. Gall and Forest Service Trail Staff,

I'm writing regarding the proposed Alpine Baldy Trail project.

I bicycle on trails at least once a week, year round. I also have
volunteered my time and energy to maintain trails in many locations,
including city, county, state, and Forest Service trails like the Middle
Fork Snoqualmie River.

I strongly support the development of the Alpine Baldy trail to increase
availability of off-road cycling in the Highway 2 corridor, and support the
position of the Backcountry Bicycle Trails Club that the trail should allow
maximum flexibility and maximize available mileage.

My thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,
