Does anyone make anything that lets you convert a frame to discs? I've got a Schwinn Homegrown HT I want to convert cause a guy has offered me disc brakes w/disc only wheels. I heard about a brake therapy thingy, but it looked like it cost something like 150 bucks. I'm thinking cheaper...much cheaper. Is there anything out there?

I've heard that attempting to throw a disc on the rear triangle of a bike that it isn't meant for can be bad news. Structurally, the bike isn't made for it, and the torque from braking will rip off any sort of bracket that you try and bolt on there. Like I said, this is only hearsay but it makes sense.

that's why we drink it here
There's a bunch of stuff out there, try to find something which bolts to your brake mount and dropout, those are the easiest to deal with. Your frame is a pretty sturdy one if I'm not mistaken, so you should be ok.

I think the concern with the discs is on road bikes. I think the Homegrown is more than sturdy enough to take the forces a disc brake would give it. If not..meh...I'll just have to shell out 150 bucks for another one ;)

But yeah, anyone have any specific companies or products?
