This seems a good topic for discussion: how one of the most violent games is acceptable for children but throw in a little explicit sex, and you have to hide it from them?

Because violence is an exceptable form of entertainment (movie/games, etc), but the American culture is still stuck on taboo mentalities towards sex (when compared to that of say Europe).

We are prudish, sort of, secretive is more accurate I believe. I didn't care for the game myself, but will admit to being curious about the sexual segments of the game. Really though it's much ado about nothing. If parents are buying kids that game they are likely not watching where Jr. is going on the 'net either and I hear stories that you can find pictures of nekid people having relations on the web.

I'm curious as to why they got all huffy about the fact that it was already on the disc. It still requires a mod to unlock it, and a mod could just as easily introduce new material. Rockstar obviously considered the material to be inappropriate and locked it up. The rating was issued based on what material was available when playing the game - I don't see how introducing a mod is such a big deal.

When Quake first came out, I was perusing a mod site and found a porn mod that was simply a level made to look like a porn theater. No people or monsters, just 5 or 6 different rooms with graphic porn movies on the wall. Whether or not that material was included in the original game is pretty irrelevant - the fact is, I had to download a modification, clearly labeled as being pornagraphic, in order to view it.

I see how it falls into certain legal categories because, easily available or not, the explicit content was sold to minors, but it seems pretty blown out of proportion. That's aside from the original topic of this thread, of course, which is that Americans are prudes :blah:

I am curious as to what exactly constitutes these video game porn scenes.

It might be helpful if parents actually took the time to know what their children were playing and watching and make informed decisions on the matter.
I say bitch slap the parent for buy little johny the game in the first place. :) They should be charged with providing pornographic materials to a minor.

It is the parents responsibility to judge what their kid plays (at least at their house) A $50 game is kind of out of reach for a 10yo. Isn't it rated "Mature" already?

Stupid parents.

Yeah. For ****s sake: CSI, SVU, all that **** is shown at 8pm and everyone watches it. There is some deeply ****ed up crap on those shows, but, for some reason it's all OK because it's a cop show. Ah, little Jenny was anally raped by 6 guys and then with a pool cue and then shot in the head, before being dumped in acid to hide evidence of the crime. We get to see little dramatic flashbacks of the incident. It is discussed in detail. But, some kids cobble together a sex scene with a 50 polygon count and everyone goes nuts. :stosh: indeed.

*gasp!* No WAY!

But really, little kids are learning too fast these days... or being in catholic school I didnt learn fast enough... :p I mean, 1st graders who have to ride the school bus home with the high schoolers (they get on the bug halfway through the route) learn a lot from the high schoolers, plus they already know a lot. I am surprised at what I hear from them. I think I'll blame a little bit of TV and not the best parenting in the world.

IMO the game is innapropriate for kids with or without the porn. If I had kids they would not have that game nor would they have a myriad of others nor would they watch shows like CSI. No good reason for it. Heck, I wont even watch CSI....just too disturbing. I know stuff like that happens, I don't need to see it on the 42" plasma.
