Hi Guys,

I've already asked about brakes, so now I thought I should ask about Forks...

OK, I'm getting an Imperial and I need some advice on which fork I should get. My friend has an Imperial with a z150 and his head angle is 65.5degrees...The z150, like the Breakout has 150mm of travel. So, I'm trying to put everything in perspective. Maybe a 65.5 degree head angle is too slack. Perhaps I should consider something else.

As for application, I'll be doing light DH, heavy xcountry freeride, 4-5 foot drops etc...A little bit of urban (very little).

What do you think? Right now I'm leaning to the Manitou simply because of the 1.5" headtube.

Thanks,
Matt

the breakout is a little to tall i think, i asked dw(owner of evil) and he said it was a great idea, he suggested the manitou minute fork, awsome looking fork. some with like 4-5" of travel would be good. i have a breakout on my other bike and i love it so i was thinking about that for the imperial but it is to tall for a hard tail all around bike. mabye like the sherman flick or firefly. hope that helps

if your thinking of going with a five inch fork, why not a marz. just get a DJ 2 or 1. That way you have a super stif reliable fork that keeps the head angle more like a 68. That way you can DH it but you can also hit dirtjumps and street on it and feel comfortable too.

At least thats how i am setting mine up this weekend:D

5" at the minimum. 6" is ideal for that bike for offroad, IMHO. I think the Z.150 is a little dumb; why not get something just as stiff for a pound and a half less (breakout).

Also, when I rig up my Imp with a 24" rear wheel and a 6" Super T, my HA isn't NEARLY that slack. 65.5 sounds like an awfully slack number to me.

See http://www.evilbikes.com/imptech.htm for head angles with various fork lengths.

I do light DH, lots of hard trail riding with drops sprinkled liberally (3-5'), and lots of urban. My choice was a Sherman Firefly, but after seeing how well it performs, I regret not going with the Breakout.

My reasoning at the time was I thought I was going to buy a 7" DC for it, and the breakout as well as a DC would be too much overlap. However, I can do so much with the 5" Firefly that I think a Breakout would have been perfect and I wouldn't have any need for a longer travel fork.

My recommendation - if you're not doing a lot of DH'ing, go with a single crown. If you're really leery about the slightly slacker angle (are you sure that's right? 65.5 seems a little slack for a 6" fork), then get a 5", but I would suggest trying the 6" Breakout.

Sorry guys,

Update...my buddy with the z150 is running a 24" rear wheel. That must account for the extra slackness...

If you're still looking for a fork...

The Firefly is coming in 1.5 for 2004 if you still the breakout is too slack. I have one on the way with a new HT frame myself... :D
