So planning for annual my trip to sunnier, saner climes. Each year the last five or so it has involved the airlines placing their arms further and further up your nether regions and seeing how hard they can squeeze and still get you to say "book it....for fuxxxxaxe" before collapsing to have stitches seen to. Malaysian Airlines want 69000yen to get us to Perth and back to Nippon (Kansai Airport). OK I say better than the others are saying so tell us the full bag of lollies. Oh yeah well apart from the lazy 5000yen here and there for sundried things, there's this lurking great bastard ready to make you whinge woefully as he tells you the fuel surcharge is going to be 64000yen fir that trip, so here Mr Virgil Bartos, your lovely wife and 2 delightful children, is a bill for nearly 600000yen to get you there and back, and please Mr Bartos, feel free to dine on the corn in my ****e.
5 years ago the same trip got done for less than 400000yen. So airlines have lifted their prices 50% in 5 years. The properly one runs that I fly seem to be making ever more obscene amounts of money. F+cking depressing.

Have you checked out fuel prices lately?

My wife flew to NY earlier this year on a ticket that was booked way in advance. She paid less than the price of the fuel the plane burned to get her there. Not a good way to stay in business...

I opened this thread hoping there was finally an airline that would make flying fun.

I was sadly disappointed :(

It might be worth checking out Jetstar for a price. They usually have pretty cheap flights to AUS from Nagoya/Osaka/Tokyo.

Not to Perth they don't mate. Anywhere within a few weeks of Christmas Deathstar aren't any cheaper anyway.

It's not rape if it's consensual. You ASKED for it. :D

I was going to fly my family to my folks house for vacation last month. It was cheaper to rent a Yaris and drive. The seating wasn't as bad as coach, either. But it did take a bit longer.

Alas, driving to Australia presents a few logistical problems. Could probably get to Indonesia actually as there are car ferries to China from here. There are also car ferries to Russia. Japan to England by car, now there's a trip, quite doable apparently.

Last time I flew to New Zealand it was $1000 and I just got a quote $6000!
Really?
I just flew up here to Switzerland (the land of eveythings expensive) from Wellington last week and the wellington\Zurich return is only $2700 (NZ$)
That´s Wellington, Auckland, Singapore, Zurich, 28 hours of travel.....

You could probably have gone via the US too I suppose. Which is good for you because you like it both ways!

Travel agent called today and said that the fuel surcharge will be coming down soon and he'll advise of the new price in the next few weeks or so. Probably US$5 per segment.
Edit- Bonus, I was wrong, it's US$ 10 per segment so a whopping US$120 for me and the kids, Better than a kick in the yam bag I suppose.

Do they charge for the pillow as well? Soon we'll have to pay for pieces of the chair....Want arm rests? That will be a $10 up charge

<edit> I think they should charge by the pound, since that is really what affects them.....I'm pretty skinny, should be reasonable :)

Hope it's not per sector, that's where they f*ck you. There's no direct flights from Osaka to Perth so I've got no choice. Singapore it shall be for me and the boys (wife not coming) all for the grand price of 401,000 yen. F*cking bargain.

Still faster and cheaper than going by boat. You could always try swimming.

Actually I usually take the ferry to Osaka, probably the nicest part of the trip, certainly the most comfortable. Airplanes, at their very best are only barely tolerable and that's only with the help of alcohol and/or doctor prescribed phrmaceuticals.

I can barely handle flying anymore. Simply being packed into a small container full of people with no freedom of movement or control of my own destiny puts me into a state of near panic.

:stupid:
I only do it once or twice a year, hate to be one of those poor saps who are taking 10+ flights a month, I'd be dead or in jail, fair dinkum.

i haven't had a pillow in 2 yrs.
this summer, i did the COS-PHX every mon-fri & watched the degradation unfold. luckily, it's direct (USAir), & i carry on everything.

i'm due to do it again starting this next monday for 4 more weeks, pending acceptance on a local gig. the one perk i have is volunteering when overbooked: i get a free x-class ticket & grab the next flight 3 hrs later.

Bloody hell!!!!
Flying Singapore air no charges for 2 pieces of luggage (25kg's total, one of which was my bike) had a whole row of seats to myself on the singapore/zurich leg and NO charges for the booze..... got pretty tanked on the flight too! ;)

I love that airline. :cupidarrow:
