Alcohol + sports hobbies

Over the past few years, I've been trying to get into the sports & drinking hobby and I've discovered it just doesn't work for me. When I was in Colorado people would ski down the ski slopes and then have a beer or alcoholic beverage. I've found it wrecks havoc on my endurance and I've decided I'd rather feel $hity from getting a good workout than only being able to do 1/8th the amount of work before feeling like crap. Has anyone had a similar experience when mixing these two "hobbies?" :monkey:

I drink after my qualifying run and again after my race run.

As for winter, drinking up the mountain rules.

A pint with lunch or between runs while skiing is the norm for me. XC skiing...I only drink afterwards.

Biking & drinking does't mesh so well for me, 'cept maybe during some shuttling or lift assisted riding.

It doesn't work well for me. I got wasted and did a mile loop on my bike. I ended up doing an endo into a bush... ehh errr, shrubbery.

NORCAL is the hizzle
These days when I'm riding I don't need or want anything beyond the ride itself. I'll occasionally take a nip from a friend's flask or maybe a quick puff but for the most part my attitude is that there is enough time for that stuff when I'm not riding.

As much as I enjoy a good drink/smoke I'm constantly amazed by people who will get loaded and then go try to race or ride. I just can't do it. Concentration is out the window, and I know if I wreck and really get hurt while I'm a little drunk I'll never forgive myself.

:stupid: Guiness is great for recovery!
hehe, maybe it might feel like that, but alcohol makes the body acidic which is murder for your muscles. I've altered my diet to be more basic on a pH level, so that means substituting more leafy green vegetables in my diet and I've found it's really helping with muscle soreness and overall body recovery from workouts.

I had a 24 of PBR for lunch one day at N* this summer.

I ripped down the hill but my problem was I get really tired if I don't drink constantly. @ beers, no more no less, will make me nap.

My snowmobiles top speed is directly proportionate to how many beers I have drunk.
