Received this the other day from our Pisgah Area SORBA president, Ken Camp www.pisgahareasorba.org . never thought it would get rolling again, but read below:

Wow! I am excited about Alexander Park for the first time since we
first started building trails there several years ago. Long Cane Trail
Building company has done an awesome job. The new stuff lives up to
the potential that I always knew was there. This is not some generic
cookie cutter trail draped across the terrain, but an interpatation of
the existing geoligy, vegitation, topography, and last but not least
history of past use. It is probably hard for some folks in a spot or
two, easy for everyone in a lot of places but you don't get
intimadated by it or that watered down feeling anywhere.

I think this
showcases how trails can be built in a very responsible and
sustainable manner yet look and feel like the trails we all know and
love that abound in Pisgah. The best thing is that through some
persistant and respectful negotiation the folks at the sanitary
landfill finaly spent their own money and not only surveyed the
boundry between what they gave for trails and what they can use but
placed loads of new yellow steel posts marking the boundry. Now
whatever is built there stays there. I am so looking forward to riding
it.

There is still some work to be done but really not a lot. We
mainly need to get matching volunteer hours to satisfy the grant, so
mostly what is left to do is the fun stuff. A few bridges, a small
amount of root sniping is left, and maybe 100 more yards of hand built
trail to get done. Long Cane has already built a lot of trail by hand
in places where a machine just would have been overkill. Only 6 people
showed up at the work day today, but we got a lot done. After seeing
the new trail I strongly encourage everyone in the cycling community
to come and help fulfill the matching grant hours. You won't be
disapointed by your work going to waste or by the new trail.

Butch,
Didn't that place get some big grant from Kona for a freeride area? Is that a thing of the past or is it still in the works? Great that some trail is finally getting built there.
Yeah...I went back and broke his post into legible paragraphs for easier reading and bolded the request for volunteer hours to qualify for the grant.

Oh, and anybody who wants to know trail days, the calender is posted here:

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Pisgah_SORBA/cal

Scan through for work days or post in the group and you'll find out ASAP.

FYI, This Sunday April 1st anyone not going to Dark Mtn, we could really use your help on Laurel Mountain with trail work!!!
