OK N8, by your juevenile reasoning...

Is your computer using nukulur power? No? Then turn it off right now! If you don't, you are a hypocrite.

Are you kidding me?? I'm pro lignite/natural gas for power production too...

I am a First Line Consumer.. I don't use recycled anything if I can help it. I throw everything in the trash... and I don't use both sides of the toilet paper.

I leave it to others to mine thru my garbage to create the recycled products on which envirowhackos thrive on.

why is recycling considered to be something in the domain of 'envirowhackos' (sic)?

Make them feel good to buy recycled crap while burning fossil fuels on the way to Starschmucks...

And that puts you squarely in the same camp as the evangelicals that quote Genesis (god gave us the Earth to use) and also think it doesn't matter because the rapture is coming. Good company for you.

Or riding a bike....or driving a hybrid....or using natural oil (ethanol)....

Plus, until the country starts to make policies that steer us away from oil consumption, it won't change.

What I'd like to know, N8, is if you think our dependence on Middle East oil is a good thing.

Careful with that brush.........I be an evangelical and I recycle, sold my Tacoma for a more fuel efficent Subaru, use a push reel mower in stead of a gas powered one, among other things..........some of us take seriously that we're to be good stewards of what God has given us...........check out that thread I started last week on this subject.

No, and neither does anyone else... there are a lot of 'guesses' though.
The most charitable estimates claim that about 30 billion barrels of oil exist in ANWR. Not all of it would be recoverable. We use about 20 million barrels of oil a day. Doing the math, we see we could sustain about 4 years, provided the 30 billion is correct, that our oil consumption does not increase (like it constantly has), and that we have the ability to actually get all 30 billion barrels out at our present energy consumption (remember it takes energy to pump out wells.)

I chopped down a bunch of oak, pine, and a couple of hickory trees today to make way for someone's new dream home.

I even labled on of the 'larger' ones "Algore" then had the chopper eliminate it.

:)

here's an example of national leadership actually doing something about foreign oil reliance, rather than just talking about it, emptily.

http://www.boston.com/news/world/asia/articles/2006/02/17/japan_town_strict_about_saving_fuel

of course, the japanese see this is a civic duty; yr average SUV Joe in the states doesn't have the same conviction. he'd rather gun it @ a green light, and throw McDonald's wrappers and cig butts out the window as he goes on his merry way.

interesting fact:
japan's economy has doubled since 1973, while their foreign oil imports (and they really have no domestic supplies) have dropped by 16%.

Yeah, but they lost the war. We deserve to use more of the world's resources.

Interesting article. One of the selling points for the company that built my house was how energy effecient it was going to be. We spent about $3000 dollars getting the best air-conditioner we could for the living area. Coupled with high quality insulation, double glazed windows (not standard here) and energy saving lighting we were able to reduce our electricity bill by 25% compared to what it was in our old el-cheapo apartment, despite the fact the house is more than twice the size of that apartment.

I urge everyone that's building or renovating to go with the most energy effecient design possible. The initial cost might be a bit higher but you'll save in the long run.

I do admit that I install 14 SEER ac units, insulated low E windows and take extra measures in sealing the home.
