you and Nick go through skis at like 4x the velocity I do
I actually had just two pair of skis for quite a long time, about 6-7 seasons... an inbounds ski and a touring ski. A couple years ago I started experimenting a bit, ended up with a few overlapping things and a couple things that I just didn't get along with, and then at the end of last season I figured out what I *think* it is I want in each class of ski and bought them. To be fair, a massive powder touring ski wasn't actually part of the plan, but these don't have any overlap with other skis and they're Just.So.Pretty. At any rate, I'm basically set on skis for the next half dozen years to a decade or more at this point.

I want a pair of GS race skis for hardpack resort stuff. I almost bought a pair this season at the ski-swap, but the deal/equipment wasn't quite what I was looking for. There is definitely NO overlap with my backcountry equipment with resort. If it's a big powder day, I can ride it, but anything else and our usual conditions of either rain-soaked and frozen or wind-blown are absolute crap with the backcountry setup. And I can usually find good snow and turns backcountry anyway, vs. whatever kind of BS is going on at Alyeska (usually rain 1/2 up, the other 1/2 skied out in 5 minutes).

Today.

I went for a pair of 2011 Volkl Mantras in the "hardpack resort stuff" category. Cost me $80... and is the only non-new ski I picked up.

FT: suuuure you’re done now :D
It's a fair cop... and technically I guess I'm *not* done. I'll be selling my big fat floppy resort powder skis to my SIL's boyfriend at the end of the season, replacing them with v2 of the same exact ski because I collaborated with a local artist friend on the topsheet. Otherwise, I'd keep the v1 as they're great.
