Unbeknownst to most Texans, Gov. Rick Perry officially retired in January so he could draw early pension benefits worth $7,699 a month, in addition to his annual governor's salary of $150,000.

A bit of context that has Democrats particularly gleeful ? over the summer, Gov. Perry signed a bill that makes it more difficult for teachers in Texas to engage in this kind of ?double-dipping? of getting a pension while still working.

New retirees in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas have to be out of the teaching workforce for a full year before they can go back to work, or they risk losing a portion of their pensions. (The bill didn?t apply to the broader Employee Retirement System that Perry, as a former state lawmaker, is part of.)

I've only been following presidential candidates seriously since ~1996, but I've *never* seen a group so utterly incompetent as this. I mean, this puts Bob Dole falling off of the stage in '96 to shame... You've got a guy who has completely changed positions on every single major issue, a guy who lobbied for Freddie Mac while claiming that anyone lobbying for Freddie Mac should be put in jail (and on his 3rd marriage while preaching for the "defense of traditional marriage"), a guy who wants to eliminate the department that's in charge of protecting our nuclear assets, a guy who's collected "retirement" payments along with his governor's salary (while passing laws prohibiting others doing the same), a woman who's railed against government handouts while subsisting on government handouts for her farm, and a guy who's paranoid about googling his own name....
