I would agree. They don't make the frame, they don't set the angles, they bolt and/or weld stuff on to pre-made fenders and tanks and call it good. They have some cool ideas, and some of the work is top notch, but a real builder has input and hands on each part.

Nothing is better than a hand hammered tank and fenders! Jesse even has his own CNC in his shop to make his parts. I know he gets a lot of dough for his bikes, but they are less expensive and far more custom than OCC's bikes. Guy's like Jesse and Billy Lane are serious builders.

I have to agree with you, they don't even build the gas tank! It's all pre-fabbed and all they do is weld scrap metal on it. At least Jessie knows how to build a tank with nothing but a couple of hammers, thats hard core.

who cares if they don't build the whole thing from scratch?

they do good quality work. but more importantly, they are creating stuff with their hands which is far more then most people do.

it's a dumb tv show anyways. too much damm drama and machismo.

I say either stop bitching about what those guys build and show some of the stuff YOU'VE built.:monkey:

maybe I don't know the definition of fabricator but they come up with the designs themselves then create them.

sure, it's cosmetics they do but it's still custom and creative. it's a bit more then just adding parts.

again, lets see what y'all are working on.....it's easy to criticize anyone.

you can't deny that all of their bikes are only have slight differences. look at them, from a "full custom" to a catalog bike only sport minor differences.

when i modify my chainguides or cut my bars i don't consider that a "fully custom" bike:rolleyes: i know you don't either....

I did say the work was top notch. If things keep going the way they have been this year, I will post pictures of my custom bike this Fall.

I am building a custom frame from bent 4130. I will be using all the drivetrain from a Ducati Monster 900, as well as the wheels, brakes, fork, and rear shock. The frame and swingarm will be from scratch, as will the tank, forward controls, bars, pipes, and seat. The frame and most everything else will be done in one-off custom powdercoat that I am working to develop this summer.

This will be a long, lean, and low chopper with old school looks and state of the art hart. This will be my personal ride and will be designed and built by me, for me, powdered by Ducati :thumb:

Now this guy built crap from the ground up, including the engine. Not talking about assembling the engine, he designed and built everything in his garage. Then raced the bike and was very competetive. Unfortunately cancer took him out in his prime.

All this lame hating is pathetic.
Both the Crew at OCC and the Jessie are competent fabricators.
Don't assume that because Paul doesn't build tanks from scratch that he is unable to.
He is more than capable.

I am a fabricator.. it is my PROFESSION.. so I actually have some understanding of what is required.. and from what I have seen from both of these shops shows signs of experienced qualified fabricators.

The OCC business model is better.. they have a higher turnaround.. and greater margins.. as well as they help support other local businesses in the area.
Who can fault them for that.
Jessie is a very well respected builder.. both of bikes and cars. His work has been owned by a diverse and select clientelle.

As far as the shows go..
The "american chopper" show featuring OCC is a lame, weak excuse for 'reality tv'.. it is trite and predictable.. the arguments and blowups feel as fake and staged as the rest of the supposed pressure and drama of the show.
The discovery channel special on Jessie James and WCC was a glorified commercial. It should have focused more on Jessie himself and explained WHO he is instead of trying to make him 'iconic'.
The show "monster Garage".. is another worn out washed up peice of crap.. it fleeces the viewing public with the idea that these creations can be had for a few grand which is preposterous.. all the "freebies" and other sponsored goods is what drives this show.. it is twenty two minutes of product placement.
in other words.. these are all very Poor TV.. except from the economic viewpoint.. there they fall into the catagory of great TV.

All I was pointing out is that I think Paul Sr. looks like a cylon centurion....

And Paul Jr. is a prima donna sissy boy. Vinny does all the work. And Mikey, though a little sad.... is pretty funny.
