I havent bought at amazon.com in ages.... recently put an order for $838 worth of photo equipment, with next day shipping to Pompano Beach, FL (got a friend who is picking it up for me) paid with a peruvian credit card, and got this in the mail....

seems reasonable my transaction would be subject to special scrutiny (after all, its a foreign credit card buying stuff overnight and shipping it to a US address... but asking for a faxed credit card statement is fishy-.

Greetings from Amazon.com.

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to process your pending order(s), including order 103-4615924-3653023. To avoid cancellation of your order(s), we request that you fax us a copy of the billing statement associated with the debit or credit card provided as payment. Our fax number is 001-206-266-1838 when faxing from outside the US, or 206-266-1838 from within the US. This statement should include the following information:

* Name as it appears on your credit or debit card
* Address on file with the card issuer
* The customer service phone number for your financial institution.

On your fax, please provide the email address used when placing your order and the order number you received in your email confirmation.

Do note that the statement must be sent via fax as we are unable to interpret attachments via email. Please also note that you will be unable to access your Amazon.com account as it has been placed on hold pending receipt of your fax. Please do not place a new order or open a new account as this may result in additional delays.

If you are unable to send the fax, please ask the issuer of your debit or credit card to contact us so we may verify your account details. The card issuer can reach us via the above fax number. The fax should include the name, phone number and fax number of a specific representative with whom we can correspond if necessary.

Please don't hesitate to email us should you have any questions, and thank you for your interest in shopping at Amazon.com.

Sincerely,

Account Specialist

This is kinda odd... i tried to access the order status on amazon.com... but my username and password DONT WORK. (WEIRD, i just tried 10 times, as its a regular username/password i use online).. so i havent been able to check if its legit...

has anybody else gotten that email before?? they are asking for a credit card statement, which i find very suspicious.
its pretty odd they dont take emails, and REQUIRE a fax.

I have no idea where I am
It sounds like you might be getting "fished".

Scammers can create identical or similar webpages of a popular site that are set up for stealing your credit card info. I've been fished via e-mail before. Usually it's a bank or e-commerce site that wants you to click the link to update your account info.

Check the url of the webpage you placed the order on and see if it matches up with Amazon's home page. You can also do a whois search and find out if the domain is registered to the same company as amazon.com.

a new twist.
my items are backordered until nov. 12th. i paid for next day shipping because i needed them delivered in southern florida by tuesday, or thursday max, as my friend is coming on friday 12!
now my account is frozen (which means i cant cancel it, or do anything), and i might not get all the things that were "IN STOCK". goddamit, thats the reason i bought at amazon.com, because it said "IN STOCK". or worse yet, the things will be delivered on saturday, when my friend is in Lima, and ill have to wait until another good friend goes to florida and is nice enough to pick them up for me... which could take weeks, even months.
it was cheaper somewhere else, but i didnt buy it because i thought it might not be delivered on time.

uggggghhhhh! **** you amazon with a splintered stick!
