yes, it's becoming more common and quite scary.

I hadn't read about Ford or Target being pressured, but did read about another large company in my local newspaper talking about similar activities by such fundy groups.

Good Lord don't get me started...............

I feel bad for Ford that they caved to pressure on an issue that has no Biblical basis........

Good for Target for standing up to those at the AFA, what business is it of their if they stock Chaunakah stuff........I mean seriously, where's the verse that followers of Jesus are to have a cow about a retail store carrying Jewish feast stuff..........

Now what aggravates me more than anything is that these AFA people spend so much time researching this stuff to get all frothed up about, but how much time to they spend actually helping people in need? Jesus has alot to say about religious people who go to great lengths to "strain the gnat" but miss the larger commandments of taking care of the poor and those in need (*coug*AIDS victims*cough*).

Mvtherfvckers are about this (holding thumb and forefinger together, though barely not touching) close to complaining about advertising in Vibe.

Time for people who call themselves christians to start looking after their own "home" and finding some way to deal with these idiots, much like Muslims should be the ones to eliminate the psychotic Islam minority that is engaged in ethnic cleansing. Fundamentalism is a mental disease.

Definition of fundament: the fleshy part of the human body that you sit on [syn: buttocks,
nates, arse, butt, backside, bum, buns, can,
hindquarters, hind end, keister, posterior, prat,
rear, rear end, rump, stern, seat, tail, tail
end, tooshie, tush, bottom, behind, derriere, fanny,
ass]

This is getting ridiculous. How many of these sorts of stories does it take before someone does something? American 'christians' have become the very thing they claim to fight. This is a huge, huge problem for the immediate future of the US. You are witnessing the flexing of fundamentalist power in the land of the 'free'. What happened? Andyman, it is very very literally up to people like you to do something about this.

I don't "feel bad" for Ford at all. They bit on something when what they should have done is told the AFA to go f--- themselves. The more I hear about this kind of stuff, the more I become dead set against it and the less I understand the motivations, the less the reasoning makes sense to me. Even within the tradition, it makes little sense.

I feel bad because they (Ford) caved to AFA's pressure instead of telling them to "go pound sand". They just demonstrated that a vocal minority in the Christian community can use it's voice to push it's agenda through...........

The funny thing is about 3-4 years ago I listened to AFA when I was a "good little Christian" and blankly agreed with everything they and my pastor said without question. The problem is I started to read the Bible and Jesus' teachings in their Hebraic context the more I realized that they were full of poo........ I've I'm even scanning though the channels on my radio and I hear the AFA talk show on, even for a second it makes me ill.........and embarassed I ever listened to something that claims to be Biblical and oriented around Jesus but couldn't be farther from the truth.

Society is sick or hearing Christians shoot their mouths off about what they don't like or what they think is immoral or what new thing they are doing to boycott........I actually think that makes things worse. What society needs to see is the church of Jesus shutting up and doing what Jesus taught.......the funny thing is both Jesus and Peter say things like "you do the good deeds (which for a Jew was taking care of those in need) and pagans will come to worship God".......no mention of boycott, no mention of petition, no mention of calling your Senator to complain about the 10 commandments.....:mumble:

And there you have it. People who really want to follow Jesus would be giving to the poor and those in need, not needing to pressure a company to change it's advertising policy. They would visit those in prison, not say "let 'em rot in prison". They would lead by example and make the world a better place, not gripe about the world would be a better place if just god would strike down the group they hate. They'd use their money and power for good and stop abuse, not feel good about using their money and power to abuse people.

Andyman, you give me hope.

Funny you mention money...........when you read the Gospels, repentance is always followed by giving on the order of 50% of your stuff away (to take care of those in need of course).........you never hear that preached on Sunday.

Not to mention that if you're rich, according to the Bible its a sin to take money from the poor.......*cough* TV preachers *cough*

Anyway.............

A little bit more on the subject .......This blog post by Dan Savage about Ford and the religious lunatics who have spooked it is bracingly frank. This is the best bit:

So what can you do? Gay or straight, you should at least pick up the phone and let local Ford dealers know that you won't even consider buying a Ford after this. Why should straight people care? Because the same AFA ****s that have successfully intimidated Ford on the gay issue are also attacking straight rights - they're the same assholes who have successfully intimidated retailers like Target into denying women access to morning-after pills. They're the same assholes trying to convince the Feds not to release a vaccine for two strains of HPV, the virus that can cause cervical cancer in women. The HPV vaccine - already tested and 100% effective! - could save thousands of women's lives every year. The AFA is fighting it.

Not bad. :)
Ford deserve to hear this sort of response from the rest of us. If the only gripes they hear are from the AFA then of course they will bend to that pressure..... they NEED to hear your opinons on these sorts of things otherwise they will just go with the current (AFA) flow. :nopity:

Divide and conquer! So let me get this stright,,, ha ha, so gays dont drive cars? Is that like not advertising to old people? The more people in the US of A keep on segragating themselves into churches, mosques, temples, gay bars or automobile factories, the more they win. (they being the man) fvck religeion, just love your fellow man, period.

Who cares about Ford. I can tell you from personal experience, gay men drive Miatas or BMW's. I suppose this does affect the gay women population, but they can trade in their F-250's for something else.
