I know there are alot of video games out their similar to this, but I'm just curious to what people think of having a video game made by the US Army out there.

No more so than they could with Quake or any other FPS gameLordOpie said:I wonder if the terrorists can somehow put this to use like they did with flight sims?
uhh, I'm an uber-geek and played MMORPGs and never had time for FPS, so I wouldn't knowTenchiro said:No more so than they could with Quake or any other FPS game
That's geekier than doing medieval recreation.LordOpie said:uhh, I'm an uber-geek and played MMORPGs and never had time for FPS, so I wouldn't know
Heh, me too. But I try to squeeze some fragging in when I can.LordOpie said:uhh, I'm an uber-geek and played MMORPGs and never had time for FPS, so I wouldn't know
yeah, but you're still British!fluff said:I am so relieved that my geek quotient is too low to have any idea what all these acronyms mean. Because I work in IT it's nice to find a group of people who take geekiness to a whole other level and allow me to feel normal.
Thanks guys.
Wait, so did tax payers money go into the development of this video game then?jimmydean said:I thought it was a good game, but the military spent WAY too much and it hasn't sucked in the kids like they thought it did. I like it because I have the Army team designator when I use my official Army email address
You thought it was free? Oh hell no, EVERYONE chipped in on that bad boy. It was one of the largest video game budgets of all time if I recall correctly.Inclag said:Wait, so did tax payers money go into the development of this video game then?
Wow, I didn't know that. Personally I have a probem with how subliminal a recruitment device that is. I know that Army commercials have Disturbed or whatever it is blasting in the background and they instill the idea of "An Army of One" which from what I have heard from military folks is exactly the opposite from how the Army wants you to think, but that is a pretty direct form of recruitment IMHO even if it is glorified to high heaven.jimmydean said:You thought it was free? It's a recruiting tool that came directly out of defense spending.

So does anyone know if the sales or portion of sales of the game, go back into the defense industry?
$50 for Xbox, and I bet the same if they have it for the PS2.Tenchiro said:The game is free to download.
At least you don't have to sign a contract to be a criminal thoughTenchiro said:The game is free to download.
As for a recruitment tool, I would bet that it is as successful in that role as Grand theft Auto is at turning kids into hardened criminals.
Wow, crazy... I remember seeing the original version for PC's in the stores for $20. Although the licensing and markup on console games is way over inflated, to make up for selling the hardware at a loss. Any profit that is left over I sure would go back to the developer and (Hopefully) re-invested into the program.Inclag said:$50 for Xbox, and I bet the same if they have it for the PS2.
You are aware of what Top Gun did for Navy recruitment numbers? (and actually Air Force too, I believe...)Tenchiro said:The game is free to download.

Don't forget "Navy SEALs". Seemed like every jackass in my bootcamp company was joining to be a SEAL after that turd sandwich. None of them made the qualifying cut (but I wouldn't have either had I tried).ohio said:You are aware of what Top Gun did for Navy recruitment numbers? (and actually Air Force too, I believe...)
No, it is stacked against you. You can be shot up to 3 times depending on what shoots you and where. Plus it is hard as hell to control your own weapon.MMike said:How realistic is it? I'll bet they "stack the deck".....like, you can be shot 205 times before it slows you down etc....
nope, you can definitely get taken out with one shot, more if you're lucky.MMike said:How realistic is it? I'll bet they "stack the deck".....like, you can be shot 205 times before it slows you down etc....
