never thought i'd see eye-to-eye with iran:

EU to criminalize Holocaust denial

European Union Home and Justice ministers are expected Thursday to agree on laws that will make denying or trivialising the Holocaust a criminal offence punishable by jail sentences across the EU.
maybe i'm spoiled by W's squashing my free-speech rights, but there's no reasonable basis behind making illegal offensive comments, however stupid they may be.

does anyone else see this as fascism?

It's not fascism, but it is very very wrong.
why not? shall jews - for whom i am a champion - be lofted above others who have suffered genocide, just because a magic threshold was exceeded? look domestically at our latest in a never-ending series of race-bating in the media. there are certain classes you cannot express anything less than glowing admiration, lest you be marched upon, which is difficult, given there's a perceived & perpetuated victim mentality.

to me, this is fundamentally identical.

Yeah, I think this sucks too. Fortunately in Europe no one will ever be charged with it unless they dedicate their whole life to the message. Then they probably deserve to be locked away for being such a fanaticist.

I may be misinterpreting fascism but to me this isn't fascism because it is not the Jews that are driving these policies, but rather their advocates.

Going by the wonkypedia, you're right...
Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers individual and other societal interests inferior to the needs of the state, and seeks to forge a type of national unity, usually based on ethnic, religious, cultural, or racial attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, authoritarianism, militarism, corporatism, collectivism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, and opposition to economic and political liberalism.
But by that definition, the Bush administration is textbook fascist.

Stupidest thing Ive heard in a while.

You cant even "trivialize" the holocaust now? You cant say "Well, it was pretty bad, but not as bad as bubonic plague or when the asteroid hit the earth and all the dinosaurs died" or anything?
