Ya so the general concensus with DHers is that they are pretty hardcore, or as the vancouver cliff huckers like to call themselves.."core".

Suck on this you pansies.

NOVEMBER 11, 2004 -- KONA, Hawaii (BRAIN)--After a full year of training for the 2004 Ironman, Christian Sadowski had his bike and nearly his body crushed by a motorcycle 105 miles into the Ironman World Championships. His hopes, however, remained unscathed. The former Army Sergeant got up, brushed himself off, and ran the remaining 7 miles of the bike leg--in socks, with his mangled bike slung over his shoulder.

Without water or shoes, Sadowski made it to the transition area one minute before the time cutoff. All he had to do after that was run a mere 26.2-mile marathon.

Sadowski wrapped his raw and blistered feet, and set off. Earlier in the week he had overheard comments about Kona lottery winners--which he was--are not real Triathletes and shouldn’t be allowed to compete with the elite and pro athletes. Sadowski made it to the finish line in 16 hours 9 minutes and 48 seconds.

Cannondale Bicycles, official bike sponsor of the Kona Ironman, although previously unaffiliated with Sadowski, presented him with the Ironman "Dedication" Award and a new Ironman 2000 bike at the closing ceremonies.

yea Ironman is pretty sick...

there was that Ironman athlete, few years back, that was HIV positive. Their training is so rigorous that he was reversing the disease process. Not beating it but stalling it and ultimately reversing it at some point. Those athletes are really strong physically and mentally.

The leading woman a few years back had the "runs" during the run, and would just reach in, scoop it out and keep running. Hardcore.
I'd LOVE to see pics or clips of that! More funny than anything else. :D

I don't think it's the runs but more about so much fatigue you tend to lose control of certain muscles. There's been more than one person crossing the line with skid marks.

When I go biking I don't feel fulfilled until I'm sh*tting on myself.

My personal hardcorest of the hardcore is Marc Herremans

Marc Herremans is the Belgian triathlete who was 6th in Kona 2001 and is now confined to a wheelchair after a bike crash in January.
After a remarkable rehabilitation, Marc managed to be back on the start line in Kona in October 2002 as a wheelchair athlete but was unable to finish.
A urinary tract infection had left him sick and dehydrated, and doctors advised him to postpone his quest after he finished the swim that year. He was determined to reach the finish line in 2003, but he´s also devoted to inspiring others, especially young people, to get involved in sport.
Despite the tough conditions in the 2004 edition, Marc Herremans made it across the line.
Carlos Moleda, another incredible, inspiring athlete who competes in the Physically Challenged category, won that division over Herremans.

A friend of mine did a race over here in the UK called the tough guy challenge, it makes that race look sissy, it combines long distance cross-country running with things like climbing electric fences, running through fire and then jumping into freezing water.

and after all that, they play "last man standing" when the do laps of the obstacle course until.. well you get it.

anyway the prize for winning in all this madness is .......

a hot shower.
