Seriously though, dont you feel like all this crap is going to come to a head soon? The Iranian nutcases, the war in Iraq, the rioting muslims over depictions of mohammad, Hamas gaining political power...the end is near. World War Nine.
LIke W. said. Fight em on their land so we dont have to fight em on ours. Eventualy we were gonna have to spank em all anyways, we got the boys there, the guns and the numbers. What better time than now for this to happen.
Seriously, Allah is going to be the end of us all. In the beginning I wanted to think that extremism was going to be an isolated issue. Im afraid its becoming the norm.
No way. Israel will put an end to it before it begins. Pay attenation and read the racist vitriol that's coming out of papers like the Jerusalem Post these days.
Read the report about the current state of our overseas forces (the one done by a retired general, not the one the administration put out). The reference to "a thin green line" lets you know why there is no better time to front the US.
For countries like Iran and North Korea, there is no better time than right now to pull some sh!t. We have all out troops either tied up or recovering, the only thing we have right now are nukes via the Navy because we won't have enough ground troops to be worth a damn.
Isreal is basicaly an extension of the us placed smack in the middle of the hornets nest. Our forces might not be as large as they once have been, but if it comes down to all out war against islam we dont need those numbers. The isrealis will galdly fill our ranks, as long as they get to play with our toy's. Alone we MIGHT have a hard time dealing with this problem, but muslims have done a damn good job of burnin their bridges in the rest of the world. I doubt we'll stand alone
Its always money isn't it? Im not following? We still have enough nukes pointed at each other to melt the world. Sure we starved out the soviets, but then they became chinese, now they want to be latin american. Isnt it just the same problem with a new dress
Well, if you want to frame it in such a simple way.
Reality is of course, a little more complex. How are you going to 'starve out' the Chinese? And why do you always think of everything in an 'us vs. them' way?
You decimate the Muslim world, you piss off the Russians and the Chinese. While it's true the North would easily crush the South in a military confrontation, it seems the only nation-state of the North that would enter into open conflict would be the United States. Without the Europeans to tip the balance, the US really doesn't have much in the way of bargaining chips.

North Korea can't hit the US with an ICBM, so the point is moot. China may, but the Chinese depend on the US market for their goods, as much as the US depends on their manufacturing ability for it's commerce. They will disagree on things, but will never go to war. This isn't cold war economics.
The cold war is over, period.
You will never see a legitimate country or even a rogue nation launch/detonate a nuke in an act of war. MAD is still in full effect, the boomers make sure of that.
Terrorist groups with no clear home turf are another matter all together. You cannot hit what you can't see.
Besides, at this rate, the middle east is going to obliterate itself in no time. they can't even agree with themselves as of late. The US Gov't and the Saudi royalty are so closely linked (especially the current administration) that they won't ever dare outright agree with their Muslim neighbors while shunning the USA.

He's right Burly, the national debt, whilst a problem in it's own right has little to do with the volume of trade between China and the US and their subsequent interdependance.
