Yeah, Houlton is kinda isolated... Not much riding right here, Presque isle has some stuff, across the border is supposed to be pretty good. I've only been here since January so I haven't explored NB yet. It looks like it will be about a 45 minute drive to established trail systems. I've heard rumors of some local stuff, but, who knows? I've got 70 acres behind the house to play with, I'm hoping to build something.

cool. I hope it works out for you, sounds like an awesome trip. I used to like hiking. I might try and do some camping in the Adirondacks with my boys this summer. A thru-hike would be cool too

I'm not sure why, but I started watching some thru-hiker youtubers this year. I found these two pretty engaging, and lots of interesting info:

Thanks, Yeah Darwin is very informative. And Dixie is a freakin badass. She had no prior backpacking experience, bought all her gear a month or two before leaving. Went on to hike the PCT then the CDT making her a Triple Crown Hiker. Anything she says I listen to. Just have to get past the deeeeeep Southern accent and sayings. lol

Can I come with you? I just need a rebuild kit for my MSR stove and a new modern bag. I got all the other shit. I can send you my inventory list.

about 10 years ago, my sister was in your same position. she also hiked the AT. afterward she completely gave up her old life, went back to college for a different carer and has been a much happier person in general...

i suspect the same will happen to you. good luck my dude...

i ain't gonna lie, even when your post are actually on topic, i still can never tell if you are serious...
I spent 4 hours inventorying my gear. Other then a new pack and a new sleeping bag, I am all set. It might be a questionable endeavor financially however. My Brother thinks I should stay close to home until my health is out of the woods and my condo gets sold.

fuck it. we are all going to die at some point. You came close. Better to die trying the AT than rotting away in a nursing home. Go do it, chase your Walden

I am in good shape as compared to my friends. I will go down fighting my friend. I rode the trainer all winter and will have a few more runs in me then I did last year.... I still can't ride a wheelie. My Breathing is normal. I do think I could do it. It would be fun. My Brother has a place on the Beach in Marshfield Ma. I was planning to hang out there for a bit this Summer. 22 situps and 18 pushups today. I walked 3 miles with my Brother the other day in the park. Going to look at Boots and a New Pack at REI. I bought some Asolo Boots last year. They suck.

do some boot research. I ran the footwear dept at an REI most of the employees don't know squat.. set your foot type and size to narrow your search then read all the reviews https://www.campsaver.com/mens-boots.html

Watched A Walk In The Woods last night cause of this thread. Fun movie. Now I need to reread the book. I miss backpacking—taking kids 3 and 5 on their first “camping” trip tonight. Gotta start somewhere...

Hope you get to do this and that we can follow along in some way.

tldnr; The reason I want to thru hike the A.T. is to get away from this place long enough to gain some perspective on how to climb out of the hole I’ve been stuck in for far too long.
It goes without saying, but reach out after you're done with the AT when you decide to hike the CDT.

My cabin is just a few miles from Idaho (Centennials) CDT, and I'm sure the more southern Rocky Mountain Monkeys would 'hook you up' too...

Thanks man !
I figured I should at least start my first thru hike before deciding to chase the Triple Crown. But yeah, it usually goes in the order of; AT 1st., PCT 2nd., and CDT 3rd. They say a hiker will need all the skills acquired on the first two in order to complete the last one. the CDT.
