I do whenever I travel...
Yeah thats what I was thinking this week. I fly on Monday and it'll suck when my headphones run out of juice, when I'm stuck in a middle seat.
did it fall way over to the side where no one probably steps?
We might need a study on this.

Isn't that side area of steps where all the dirt, dust, tardigrades and skin particles get pushed to and collect? Therefor it might actually be less clean. :D

In a van.... down by the river
are you traveling to South America every 4 months like rideit?!

for most normal travel days I might use like 20% of the juice on my headphones
I just have an old pair of JBL wired ear buds - they still work and take up basically zero space. My wireless headphones are big and, TBH, not very comfortable. Nothing I'd want to travel with.

FTR - I travel rarely, so the earbuds hardly ever get used.

From what I have read, a proper headphone jack compromises two design elements:
Resistance to water ingress, and how thin they can make the phone. I miss my LG’s that had a jack and a DAC.
Headphone jacks also hamper the ability to sell expensive accessories

On the ground in Panama, boarded what is hopefully our last flight of the day. Lotta “cabeza” and “cinturón” and “tubo rojo” in this safety talk.

The death of the 3.5mm audio jack is societies greatest example of enshitification. :shakefist:

I was a 3.5mm hold out until the pandemic hit and I spent all day on Webex calls hard wired too my computer. You can only have ear buds ripped out of your head so many times to stand up, kick a garbage can and scream "It's Fucking Embarrassing!" so many times. Now none of my work devices even have connectors so I am locked in on expensive, easily lost and attractive chew toys to the dog.

Yup. Pandemic was when it got killed it for me too, but mostly because I needed a new phone and there just wasn't a phone that even had a jack anymore. I went wireless, but I went kicking and screaming.

I'd already gone Bluetooth for my headphones long before phones went no-3.5 mm. And then came the AirPods Max, whose pairing process and ease of use is just way better than the ol' Sonys.

so no ragrets for me

it's funny/weird. for a kid who lived through middle school with a walkman and headphones always on, i have had zero desire as an adult to ever wear headphones, of any type. ever. only exception was when i commuted by bus/the el for two years in chicago in grad school.

I'll hardwire in a battery charger here shortly. It suffers from a) lack of use b) cold weather and c) the power hungry grid heater. Not exactly a recipe for battery longevity, but its somehow managed to hang on this long.
Arrgh, work truck was flat this morning, haha!

Same here. I couldn't have gotten through some of my studio classes without a walkman. Now I rarely use earbuds or headphones.

Took a pair on the flights home from my hike. Never needed them. The meth head I sat next to on one flight was pretty cool to talk to. And if I had of worn them then I wouldn't have heard the pilot announce that we were taking an emergency landing in Boston because a part fell of the plane. So yeah, wouldn't wanted to have been deprived of those experiences.

You could get something like this and still look like a holdout.
Bluetooth DAC and Headphone Amplifier BTR15

On the bike path I am seeing more and more people with wired headphones, I assume there was a Tik Tok where someone said they sound better.

That amp is a good product, but you re still limited to the compression that the medium is stored in. Yes, now they can essentially reinterpret it, but will still go from something like MP4 or whatever. At least that’s how it was about 5 years ago when I gave up on the LG with the DAC.
Anyone know more about what is available (in the phone storage) nowadays?

 it's contagious!

Of course I saw another code in queue after the drive home, something related to the heater performance in the upstream NOx sensor. Hope it was related to the low battery voltage and not a bad sensor, that one is a wee bit of a pain in the arse to replace.

The Volvo I had loved to to throw some pretty weird codes with a dying battery.

I get a code on things at work that says XYZ module is receiving packets of data too quickly, so far it's not causing any issues so I'll let it go as looks pretty shit to diagnose going by the manual.
