I've narrowed down my version of Autocad not working on my laptop having to do something with the Autoprotect portion of Norton System Works. My question is, are there settings that I should screw with, or should I just try and disable Autoprotect? I'm using Systemworks and Norton Internet Security, do I really need Autoprotect? Thanks, and again, any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried the stick already, all that did was put little holes all over the place. My smaller stick kept breaking off and is now all over my keyboard. Maybe I'll try the hammer.......

Like I mentioned in your last thread, anti-virus software can prevent cad, cad/cam software from working right. You can leave your settings where they are at and just stop the auto-protect service when you use Autocad. Before you start Autocad go into Computer Management and click Services. Find Norton Anti-Virus Autoprotect and click on Stop Service.
If you keep your anti-virus updated and scan your computer once or twice a week, you don't really need auto-protect running all the time. If you download files files and don't scan them, then I suggest leaving auto-protect running until you need to stop it. If you change the auto-protect startup type from Automatic to Manual it will not start at bootup and you will have to start the service instead of stopping it when you want it to run.

Thanks Cadman, that's a good idea. What bothers me is that even once I exit back out of Autocad after disabling autoprotect, and then enable Autoprotect again, my computer has problems.

Did you disable your anti-virus software BEFORE installing Autocad or was it running during installation? If it was running then you may want to remove then reinstall Autocad with your anti-virus disabled. To ensure a clean install you may also have to go into the registry and delete all references to Autocad. If you don't have experience with the registry then don't go in there. If you need help then send me a PM and we can go from there.
