Oh well it appears that my 1 week old "regular" X4 that is touted by Thomson as "...the lightest, strongest 31.8 stem available..." has already been de-throned! LOL.

Nah, no upgrade. If anything, maybe it'll become a rare collector's item once the DH comes out. I don't know many XC riders on 70x0 stems! Anyone wanna buy an X4 for $200?
Yeah I hear ya. I was all set to order the EA70 31.8 until I realized it was only available in 2.5" rise, so I got pretty much the same thing in the ProTaper 31.8 which is only 2" rise. Now that I keep looking at bigger and bigger forks even that may be too high for my liking. We shall see.
I can definately understand your resistance to OS if you can't get the proper riding position (bar rise and bend/sweep) you desire. OS is going to take over though, so you better petition Easton for what you want.
The X4DH looks like a nice stem, but I'm not a fan of OS either, so I guess I'm gonna stick to the, (normal), Diablous on my next build too..
OS looks too fat. Me not like fat, me like sleek clean bikes. Skinny tires and thin tubes is the way to go.

yours isn't obsolete, it's just for a different use, this one is for gnar*core drops, north shore hucking / black diamond riding, where yours is for pronging, jibbing and all-mtnX-ing and X-Stuntry.
