the public transportation union is striking as of four hours from now.

I understand that some of the unions demands are valid, yada yada...

but it's extremely selfish of them considering that most people who take the bus do so cuz they have no other choice. They should continue running service in a limited basis... all routes operate, but maybe reduce buses servicing each route from, say, four buses, to just one bus.

I know people who live miles from work and have no other transport. It's just wrong and selfish.

Standard tactic. Protest when the most people will notice.

It is a pain in the ass though. I was in France with the wife (then GF) and the Channel Tunnel workers decided to go on strike. Wifey had a Maths final the next day and we didn't get home, very stressed, till about 2am. Fortunatley she still got an A somehow.

If it wasn't a pain in the ass it wouldn't be much of a strike now would it?

"Sure, you can protest ... over in this corner where nobody will see or hear you"

Given the Pissant offer they keep getting offered I don't blame them in this case.. And yes I am being affected as well

I dunno, I just don't think anyone should hurt people less fortunate than themselves to improve their own situation.

Usually a company goes down the tubes because of its union...
I'm a non-union management member of a union company, and I agree 100%. It's crazy how much the union controls the company's operating plans; I could never figure out why the company lets it happen, but they do.

The part that makes me sick is the number of union members who complain about their jobs. These guys make a very good living with a limited education and, for the most part, are making more than $60,000 a year for a job that is pretty much unskilled. If they went anywhere else, and did the same work, they would be making $18,000 a year. Despite this fact, they always want more money, benefits, etc. It's insane; the company is already paying them 3-times what they are really worth.

In addition, it's nearly impossible to terminate an employee and they know it. I've had employees come back after being fired for stealing, hitting another employee, making death threats against a management member, working drunk and stoned, reporting to work late more than 40 times in a year, etc.

One day, a scorpion looked around at the mountain where he lived and decided that he wanted a change. So he set out on a journey through the forests and hills. He climbed over rocks and under vines and kept going until he reached a river.

The river was wide and swift, and the scorpion stopped to reconsider the situation. He couldn't see any way across. So he ran upriver and then checked downriver, all the while thinking that he might have to turn back.

Suddenly, he saw a frog sitting in the rushes by the bank of the stream on the other side of the river. He decided to ask the frog for help getting across the stream.

"Hellooo Mr. Frog!" called the scorpion across the water, "Would you be so kind as to give me a ride on your back across the river?"

"Well now, Mr. Scorpion! How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?" asked the frog hesitantly.

"Because," the scorpion replied, "If I try to kill you, then I would die too, for you see I cannot swim!"

Now this seemed to make sense to the frog. But he asked. "What about when I get close to the bank? You could still try to kill me and get back to the shore!"

"This is true," agreed the scorpion, "But then I wouldn't be able to get to the other side of the river!"

"Alright then...how do I know you wont just wait till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?" said the frog.

"Ahh...," crooned the scorpion, "Because you see, once you've taken me to the other side of this river, I will be so grateful for your help, that it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, now would it?!"

So the frog agreed to take the scorpion across the river. He swam over to the bank and settled himself near the mud to pick up his passenger. The scorpion crawled onto the frog's back, his sharp claws prickling into the frog's soft hide, and the frog slid into the river. The muddy water swirled around them, but the frog stayed near the surface so the scorpion would not drown. He kicked strongly through the first half of the stream, his flippers paddling wildly against the current.

Halfway across the river, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog's back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs.

"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?"

The scorpion shrugged, and did a little jig on the drownings frog's back.

"I could not help myself. It is my nature."

Then they both sank into the muddy waters of the swiftly flowing river.

Hold on, is the frog the union or the company? What if it wasn't actually a frog but a toad? I can see you haven't thought this through, have you?

P.S- The river is the general public, right?

Actually most companies go under long before they're big enough for their employees to unionize. But feel free to keep making things up.

Fluff is right. Companies go under because of their management. This is by definition, unless we're talking about an unforeseeable act of god.
