I am headed to Sun Valley for the next 11 days and was curious what the scene was there for riding? I know US XC nationals were just there but that really doesn't give me an indication what type of "good" riding there is.

not traveling with a bike either (though I will bring some riding gear) so if someone could recommend some shops that rent decent quality stuff in and around Sun Valley that would be a big help.

Sun Valley has incredible riding, as long as you like to pedal. They do have lift access at the resort, but with limited riding. It was featured in Bike Mag a few years back as one of the top 10 places to ride.
For a rental, check out Backwoods Mountain Sports. See if the Manager, Mike, is in. I used to work with him a some years back, and he would always talk about the riding that was supposed to be a lot better than whats on the grid.
