Transfering parts from one bike to another and trying to avoid a visit to the shop or buy the tool itself, so does anyone know of any way to remove a crank shaft without the tool?

yeah...go to the shop and ask them to do it. I get that stuff done for free all the time, and only takes a minute.

I agree that you should just get a shop to do it. Any ways you may find to remove the cranks could damage the splines and/or spindle. You don't want to do that.

Either buy the tool or get a shop to do it. Shouldn't cost much. If you have a good relationship with the shop, they should do it for free while you wait, considering it takes about ten seconds to do.
