I'm currently diggin this guy and his tunes.

Good stuff in my book.

I'm currently listening to it at work - one CD that you can put on repeat and just let it run and run.

I downloaded a sort of greatest hits list from itunes - I'm not sure which song is my favorite yet, there are several that I really like a lot.

the new CD? I don't have it, but I like pretty much all of his stuff! its mostly all simple 1-4-5 progression so if you have a guitar you can probably play most of it!

i think you summed it up v. nicely w/ the 1-4-5 comment...i can see the appeal, it just ain't for me. so i didn't want to piss on the parade.

Werd!

I think its just a "thing" I like his lyrics on "Horizon has been defeated"
specially the 2nd verse.

The horizon has been defeated
By the pirates of the new age
Alien casinos
Well maybe it's just time to say
Things can go bad
And make you want to run away
But as we grow older
The trouble just seems to stay

Future complications
In the strings between the cans
But no prints can come from fingers
If machines become our hands
And then our feet become the wheels
And then the wheels become the cars
And then the rigs begin to drill
Until the drilling goes too far

Things can go bad
And make you want to run away
But as we grow older
The horizon begins to fade, fade, fade
Fade away

Thingamajigsaw puzzled
Anger don't you step too close
Because people are lonely and only
Animals with fancy shoes
Hallelujahs zig zag nothing
Misery it's on the loose
Because people are lonely and only
Animals with too many tools
That can build all the junk that we sell
Aw sometimes man makes you want to yell

Things can go bad
And make you want to run away
But as we grow older
The horizon begins to fade away
Fade Away
Fade, fade, fade
Fade, fade, fade
His albums are not usually ones that I can listen to straight trough. I think I like the fact he was a pro surfer and film maker, and that is what drew me to his music first. Not music that drew me to his other work. That may be why I like him. If I just heard his music I probably would have passed right by.

Jack Johnson = good tunes...
Very similar to the band Slackstring, who did several songs for the sound track of the collective. I read that slackstring and johnson went to school together, may be why they have a similar sound. Good stuff.

Different types of music appeal to me at different times.

I get where you are coming from Narlus. I think it is actually the simplcity that appeals to me.

whereas the over the top complexity or whatever you want to call if of a band like System of a Down does absolutely nothing for me.

However I am a fan of complex rock (i.e. progressive rock).

My wife loves the music. I just get a dull pain where my thoughts used to be...simple, boring, completely uninteresting to me. Where's the creativity?

a lot of his lyrics are thoughtful (and decipherable) rather than some of the rantings of the hard rock/alt. crowd. if it's raining out on the weekend and time to relax, jj is always a favorite in my house...

Jack Johnson is from this area, he's been in heavy radio rotation for years here. I didn't care for his simplistic, corny tunes to begin with, now its pure hatred.

I like JJ for the most part. It's cool chill summer music and I like to listen to him after a long day when I need to clear my head. His lyrics are really good and his simple guitar style is effective and easy to transcribe. Once in a while he crosses the line into sicky sweet cliched pop (like a lot of his CG record). I think my favorite album is Brushfire Fairytales.

I have to be in the mood for it, but I do enjoy most of what I have heard. It is easy to groove to, but I'm not in a groove mood most of the time.

I can take or leave his music but I admit I am jealous of the bitch. I read an article some time ago about how he lives on the beach in hawaii, surfs, plays some tunes/records new music, screws his hot surfer babe, and every now and then does a tour. Bastard!! :mumble: :)

Actually I read an article on him a while ago; he lives in Hawaiii (where he grew up) and mostly rides his bike around. His vehicle is little Nissan pickup. So there.

No, actually I was trying to sound haughty (yet slightly hurt on purpose) I've seen stinky's posts before, and i think i disapprove of this one....btw, i used to live in mesa so i may even know who he is, though i'm not sure which one of my sarcasm-laden bike acquaintances it could be (there are so many to choose from...)

I threw up a lot. JJ is never played on a radio anywhere near me unless I'm getting road head and she demands it.

last time i had multiple fillings done at once, i put the new jack cd on my head phones and tried to tune out the drill that didnt stop for an hour. Now i can't listen to that cd without thinking about the dentist.

Worked good to keep me calm though
