Ok,
What gives with your inventory??

I wanted a FOX 36, but the guys at my LBS talked me into an 04 Sherman Firefly which they are all loyal fans of. When it didn't show up they called to find out Manitou sold out and that it would be a month before the 05's were ready. :mumble:
So I decided I might as well get a new Nixon Platinum. Fine - It's ordered and my LBS was told it was shipping THAT day. :D
The shop got a call the next day to say they were mistaken and that Nixon was for another company :mumble:
Then manitou said they would have another to ship out at the end of the month :D
Then a day later my LBS got another call saying it was a mistake that it wasn't the end of the month but another month. :mumble:
The manager of my shop called to complain because I've already paid for this friggin thing and I WANT TO RIDE MY BIKE! He was then told it was going to be a month and a half :mumble: :mumble:
In the meantime an 05 Sherman Firefly showed up

Ok, I don't like to slag companies on forums but WTF?
If this is the kind of service I should expect from Manitou NO THANKS!
I'm really hoping there is somebody out there that can make sense of this because the guys at my local shop are just as confused.

alright - end of rant.

You have to understand what time of year it is before you go all freaking out on the company.

It's the end of model year right now and they are pressing to get the new stuff in production and get rid of the old stock. Not to mention they are preparing for Interbike which is in a a week and half. Every company is in the same situation right now (bikes & components).

You just picked a bad time of year to be getting a new fork.

Being the end of the model year is no excuse for screwing up shippment dates and not knowing what's in stock. If they can't get that right this time of year they likely can't get it right any time of year, which is really no suprise, there are relatively few companies IMO who know exactly what's in stock or when they'll be shipping the next model year's product.

I know, but I've already shelled out over 3k and still don't have a ride. This whole mix up started over a month ago. If I could get a straight answer then I could make a better judgement on what to do.

It wouldn't by so bad if they didn't get their wire crossed and tell me I'd have it by next week and I know that if I go ahead and settle (well it's not really settling because its a sweeeeet fork!) for the 05 firefly the Nixon will show up the next day.

I work in the manufacturing industry, hell i used to be a production manager. The one thing you NEVER EVER EVER do is promise a customer a product and not deliver when promised. It's better to say it'll take longer and ship it sooner.

Be glad you got a 05 Sherman Firefly and not a 04. The SPV on the 04 didn't feel as sensitive as the 03 with TPC+. Supposedly the 05 SPV feels nicer on the small stuff...

At this point I'm thinking if Manitou still tells me it's going to be 1-2 months I'm going with Fox.

Didn't you say the 05 Firefly, which was your first choice, showed up?

No I ordered an 04 firefly because I was told the 05 stuff wouldn't be out till november.

Then was told the 05's would take a few months to build so I opted for the Nixon which was actually my first choice because i wanted something a bit lighter. Then the 05 firefly showed up, but now i have my  set on the Nixon.

Well this is good to know. Didn't know fox was having trouble but I can imagine they'll have problems too with the anticipation of the 36. I know the new enduros are spec'd with it.

If you watched the projected specs from Interbike 02 to the actual 03 product lines and then movement away from them in 04 lines for their supply record, you'd know. I've heard rumors that some of the new Enduros might have Nixon swapped in last minute - but just rumors...

I still like Fox products better than Manitou overall but they both make good products and both have their issues like any other brand. It would be great if bike companies could get a handle on supply issues more in line with most other modern industries...

My SPV cart blew entirely last weekend. I'm going to see if I can retrofit a TPC+...

Well said. It's down to customer service because competition is so tight. Working with large bicycle manufacturers you would think they would have their production schedules written in stone.

I was really hoping a manitou rep. would read this and feel bad for me and sneak out my fork today.

(you can PM me for the name and number of my LBS to ship it to)

I think instead of trolling for a random manitou employee on a message board, you might try calling their CS dept...

I did. They told me to contact my dealer.

Sorry if my thread annoyed you in anyway but at least I did learn that it is an industry wide problem at the moment and I feel better about waiting until my LBS get's official word next Tuesday.

Didn't annoy me at all; just trying to point out where you might get real help instead of speculation. Best of luck, though. I'm about to embark on getting my blown Firefly damper replaced...I'll be needing some of my own, I think.

Manitou has always turned my stuff around in a week or less. I wouldn't stress.

Hah, well, it's not comforting that you're so familiar with their CS...

UPDATE:

I'm sure this was posted already, but the Nixon has been recalled or they've issued a warning to check tire clearance. I can post more info if no one else has already.

I'm getting the Sherman this week.

It's a tire clearance issue. If the fork bottoms out the tire could impact the crown. They sent out a sheet to show you how to check the clearance of your tires, but my friend said a 2.5 tire wouldn't work.

They are sending out new internals which I can only imagine will reduce the travel of the fork.

I hear the fix raises A-C dimension, dont know if this really means a loss of travel. (from the MTBR Turner forum, where someone already has a nixon fork).
