This post will show my ignorance, but I'm old enough & freeride minded to care...

I want to get into some DH racing...I'm to busy w/work and family to be some full time travel everywhere type racer...I simply want to get into it and see what happens - I have no reason to think I'm all that and woudl be an asset to the sport...I just want to do it!

So what options are there (if any)?

What series are there to consider?

I guess I'm looking for any and all input I can get - I'll post on the DH forum later, I'm more interested in those from NC, VA, TN, SC, GA etc. who have raced or are currently racing DH...I have family spread throughout TN, NC, VA and SC...that should help support some of my potential travels etc...

I'm just not sure where to start :help: ?

Thanks in advance,
danW

Not too many options this year. Sugar has a great AMBC race with a beginner friendly course. www.skisugar.com for details. There may be a race at Windrock (Oak Ridge, TN) in the fall but that's tentative and this forum's probably your best source of info for that race. Otherwise Snowshoe (BFE, WV) is your next closest option - their fall race is in September sometime but I don't have a site or any other details.

to get a feel for what it's like, go up to windrock with a shuttle buddy and get as many full solid runs in as you can.

keep coming back here to look for race dates. last year we could say: www.maxxis-sss.com has what you need. maybe next year... :mumble:

in a single wide, cooking meth...
For 'local' NC stuff, you're pretty much limited to a race June 18th at Dark Mountain (near N. Wilkesboro) and the aforementioned Sugar race (near Banner Elk/Boone)...I think the Dark Mountain race would be an easy day trip and from the sounds of it, will be a relatively short and straight forward course (i.e. good one to get your feet wet on)...Sugar is not crazy techy, but pretty much has all the elements that go into making a fun DH course (and with the addition of the upper section, is pretty long now)...Sugar is a great event and I suspect Dark Mountain will be good too...

Oops, just forgot about the Fontana Dam Jam...That's another good candidate as the course is pretty easy and it's only about 4 or so hours away from ya...Plus, the Natahala area has lots to do for families (heck, I think there's even a Casino not too far away now :thumb: )

Obviously there's also the NORBA race at Snowshoe, WV and maybe even another event there later in September...And if they have a race at Windrock this year, that would be icing on the cake (btw, it's pretty close to Knoxville for reference)...So you should have a few options you work into the schedule this year...Good luck.

Btw, here's a good site for DH race schedules:
