funny, but it's not quite that close to me. Last year DHTahoe had a hand in a few manmade 'structures' and 'features' that received much pre-hype...just wondering if anyone's bothering with that stuff this year. Usually I get my info from the net, show up, and race with little or no practice.
Usually good enought for a top 10 which is all I'm looking for - to qualify for Mammoth.

The public range is currently tented and closed. I don't know what the status is on the Police range, but as far as I could tell, there seems to be NO work going on with the DH course from last year, Top to Bottom?? The DS course is coming along nicely, berms, jumps, rythms in the middle of the course, nothing else. The 4x track is being worked on right now with the tractor looks just like the first straight, with a jump being formed. This info is from 12:00 Thursday.

I guess they've got it dialed after all these years......I didn't get to ride all the stunta wood last year, so I'd just as soon forgo it this time around...thx for the update...they'll probably pull out the Bobcat this weekend or early next week for the DH bumps and berms.

There was a rumor last year that they may be using different parts of the hill for the DH this year, does anybody have any info regarding this or was it just talk?? Plus, since DHtahoe isn't involved this year, will there sill be wooden ladders??? Anybody?? Lastly, is it just me or is there not as much excitement for the otter this year??

I've never run the dh course before (and probably won't get to this year either due to a mt. board crash last weekend) but I'm going to try to head out there this weekend with my digital camera and see whta I can find. That's allowed and stuff right?

I went out there yesterday, the DH course is pretty much the same except no ladders and a stepdown instead of the first ladder and the hip is built up, they just started it yesterday, Beavis, Frosty and Haderer were out there workin on it all day. The MTX course was moved to the grass parking lot yesterday because the tractors on the normal course were sliding down the hill. It is basically a large BMX course with very little slope, it should be interesting. They got 190 BIG truck loads of dirt in just yesterday for the MTX track. The DS is the same as every year the berms look prime right now and it should be fine. The ride zone is pretty bad this year, it is a pump track that I worked on all yesterday with a couple guys, and 2 tables and thats it for now hopefully there will be more when the time comes. The Pro Dirt Jumps havent been started at all yet and Jamie Goldman is going to be building them. Wednesday is sooooo close I cant wait!!!!

Stopped by Laguna Seca on a ride w/ my girlfriend on saturday. We didn't have much time when I finally got out there so I only got pics ds track. I wanted to ride back out there today to get the dh, but it looks like rain.

Here's the pics:

that is what was supposed to be the MTX course, it is no longer though because of the tractor sliding down. If you read my post above, then you could have seen it was moved to the grass parking lot right down the road

Whooops. I thought it was changed before I got out there, since they're sorta in the same place. Fixed the post.

I was wondering why they don't use the old motocross track out there for the mtnx anymore? It seems like it'd be way easier to setup every year.

I'm curious, who usually builds the SOC courses? Do they just leave 'em up all year w/o all the jumps?
The 4x and DS courses are annual and they usually bring some pro guy in to design them and volunteer diggers make them. Last year I remember they bulldozed the DS course early Sunday. The DH course is there year round but there's always the danger of the firing range.

You cant ride the DH course except race week. They have to pay the shooting range to shut it down...plus the the track is weak salsa anyway.....and furthermore it looks like once again the Laguna won't be very Seca. Well, good luck everyone...my first (and last) practice run will be the AM before my race.....my usual stile - fully unprepared.

I'm excited. I just spent way too much money on making my single speed Chameleon a 9 speed for the DS race. Not too stoked right now. But the race will make me happy again. =P

Not really a grass lot, if you come into Laguna Seca through the main gate and make a right, it is the parking lot to your left just as you cross the first bridge over the race track. The 4x track looks really good!!! Multiple lines through the berms, lots of jumps and rythyms, and the berms are big enough to pass on!!! The only drawback is the slight slope ( maybe 2-3% ) of the course. The good news is you don't have to hike up the steep hill to re-gate. On a down note it has been raining here for the past 24 hours and the last day without rain was Saturday. Tire selection will be key for both the DS and the 4x.

Mike,
I have to go to King City today for an appraisal, I will swing by the track and shoot some pic's. I was waiting until it was completly finished but I think the masses want some 4x porn. I will try to post the pics when I get back.
