Any SRAM experts/insiders - the new PG cassettes - any difference?

It seems that SRAM has done away with the old 5.0, 7.0, 9.0 designations for their cassettes and now they're PG-830, PG-850, PG-990, etc etc.

Has there been an actual change in the cassettes, or just the naming? I've had really bad luck with the SRAM 5.0's I've used in the past, they won't last more than 6months of once-or-twice-a-week riding, which is pretty unacceptable when XT's seem to last 3x that much.

So, any improvement?

Looking at the SRAM tech documents it looks like most everything is the same with the exception of the PG 970 and PG950

PG990=9.0
PG970=7.0
PG970 road=New
PG950=New
PG850=5.0
PG830=3.0
