Agreed. Steve peat should have left the sport after one bad year years ago, dude was done years ago.
Well if i was Peaty and i could still hang around in the top 20 of the world cup and have a laugh doing what I love doing then why the hell not. There is many riders starting out who still wish they could be as fast as him and there half his age. So while sometimes I think watching the world cups that he should call it a day I can see why hes still there. Hes a legend on the sport and a damn good ambassador for it. The sport is the better for him being around and look at all the great riders hes mentored over the years and will continue to.

Haha I was just making fun of the idea that somebody should "retire" to enduro because they had one bad year, and was using peaty as an example of somebody who's had some good years, some bad years, and then come back for more good years. Gwin aint washed up yet was the point. I lose at internet sarcasm

I don't think so. I think that title goes to al-irl...
well did get the sarcasm but there is times when I think peaty should call it a day and then the next race he pulls it out of the bag. Im sure im not the only one who sometimes thinks he should quit while hes ahead. Comparing Gwinn and Peaty as far as retiring due to crap results isnt a fair. There both at very different places career wise. Peat has nothing to prove as where Gwinn has one kick ass year under his belt and thats about it

I was with you up until that point, then I started

Few things: it was actually 2 seasons of the world cup overall (following 2 years of a few top 10s)

And 9 world cup wins 2 second places, 2 3rd places, and 2 5th places has a slightly different ring to it then "Gwinn has one kick ass year under his belt and thats about it"

Also I think my stats are off, I went off of his wikipedia page which is missing his 2013 season as well as his 09/10 seasons. He probably has more podiums then mentioned.

Just sayin.

He will be. As legendary as Peaty and Nico are, they were never as dominant over the course of 2 seasons like Gwin was. Gwin is still young and has many, many, many more wins to come.

Glad I could help get this thread back on track.

Barel should retire from enduro and replace Gwinn. Give the big S some SPICE again.

It's completely clear that Gwin is moar dominant than Nico ever was.

Now read the above statement a couple of times and see if it makes sense in your mind.

Last time I checked, Nico always had a technological edge over his teammates. So...yeah....
You would be mistaken. He covered ALL his bases on bike and setup, yes. But his mechanics weren't super spies when it came to the equipment. These guys all had from 3-6 inches of suspension to tune and virtually the same brakes. Until you've seen Nico ride, you will have no comprehension of that guys talent.

Guys like Stik got to watch him day in and out. I've been track side to see him come through and he (NOT HIS BIKE) is called The Alien for a reason.

3 Junior Worlds titles with times that were pretty much winning the Seniors. Sure, track was a smidge different due to the time of day, conditions, etc. But none of the World Cup riders ever stood up and denounced that guy. His consistency of success and then add to that his perfection at Worlds are unmatched.

Gwin's explosion onto the sport is unmatched as well. He is putting a stamp on the World Cup coming from a direction others have tried, but none have had the meteoric rise to the top like him. That includes my favorite rider of all time, Palmer!

That being said, Gwin is benefiting from the knowledge learned from all those that came before him...Palmer, Voreis, Peat, Graves, Nico, Hill, Rennie. He's putting in all the work and doing his best to fight off all the pressures of being a cycling media magnet as the great US hope.

It makes as much as sense as PSP. But proving once again, RM can deliver the ruh-tard like none other. As for Gwin's future success (in terms of actually winning races), I think it's hardly guaranteed he will be the dominant racer he was prior to last season. There was a time not too long ago that it appeared Hill was going to win basically every race he entered, but sh!t happens like the competition stepping up, severe injuries, life/kids, new bikes, etc....All of which have a way of changing the podium landscape in a hurry. Gwin's dominant period remind me a lot of Hill's, and while Hill is still a threat to win almost anywhere, he's certainly not the automatic top step presence (or even podium presence at some venues) he once was - likewise it wouldn't surprise me if Gwin is a constant threat to win and/or podium, but never get's back to winning 5 or more WC races per season. Having said that, even if he doesn't win another race the rest of his career, he's still a legend and could likely hang around the WC circuit for long as he really wants to.

not if he keeps riding a demo...

I dont think its the bike thats the problem, there seems to be some sort of bad organisation or culture in the Specialized camp. The top riders will be fast on any bike even complete **** boxes. Nicco being prime example the Sunn Radical was a pig of a bike. Its no coincidence that both Hill and Gwin went from hero to zero when they moved to the big S.

I think you are forgetting that Hill won multiple world cups and the world cup overall in his first year with specialized. Then the next year managed to come fifth at the first race in Maribor WITH a crash and then blew up and destroyed his shoulder at Fort William. That injury put him out for a whole season until world champs which he won after being back on the bike for 5 days. The next two years his results sucked because he was injured or unfit.

So it is entirely coincidence that Hill and Gwin "went from zero to hero" with Specialized.

I just watched the chronicle of it on 3 Minute Gaps this week. Which year did Hill become a dad? That adjustment takes a LOT out of you.

Thing is, that was more or less in France...
But they now have two strong teams to support with Commencal and hutchinson united. I think they will take it seriously, at leat more serious as their client support:think:

Congrats Mr. Bruni.
That kid will be FAST this year.

I like Cam Cole a lot. His attitude and his style. But how many different bikes has he been on in the past 5 years? Wasn't he on a Rocky the year he came in second at Fort Bill (with that massive whip coming into the finish arena)? then Lapierre, then Yeti, now Commençal? Here's hoping for some stability for him, and wicked results too.
