How do you figure out what to withold for 1099 as far as state and federal taxes?

Say my gross 1099 pay is $4000 a week, how do I figure out the total tax I need to save?

$4000 is just a guess, I don't think I'll be making that much.

And yes, I know I need an accountant. I'm just wondering if there is a formula for figuring out this stuff, so I know roughly how much I would be pimped for taxes.

Any help is appreciated.

ultra conservatively - say 39% for Fed and 5.5% for MA (I think that's where you are)
